Oh that's just a collective of Scousers who are quite happy to let the world know they despise the Royal family and every deplorable thing they stand for ,rather than kowtowing to those absolute weapons who are happy to keep doffing the cap and tugging the forelock..... Glad to help
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't City score right after this and the ball didn't go out of of play between this penalty shout and the goal? So if you get the penalty you don't get the goal.
I know the rules state if the ball hits a players hand but the hand is on the ground supporting the players body then it isn't a pen. Not sure if that's the case here though as it looks like Matip's hand is on the way to the ground but not sure if it's touching it yet. There was a high profile one (correctly) not given last season for that reason but can't remember who it was. Regardless though, as far as I'm aware this couldn't have been a pen anyway because they scored before the ball went out of play.
It's going to be strange having a big target man in there ,but on today's showing it looks like the team is adapting well to the new set up and Nunez certainly looks like he's going to be a real handful to opposition defenses with his pace and ability to break the lines. I thought Thiago and Fabinho completely controlled that midfield in the first half ,even so a few players still looked rusty ,Robertson and Firmino in particular looked well off the pace and Elliott when he was introduced had a lot of moments were he could have released the ball a lot earlier instead of just getting overpowered and run off the ball. It's still however early days and both teams will improve ,although from a City perspective Haaland doesn't strike me as someone willing to press and defend from the front ,whether City's manager identifies this or not I've no doubt Haaland will be a significant threat when he adapts and integrates with the players around him. Other than that,we managed to win with Adrian in goal whose distribution is woeful and possibly the last keeper we would wish to see between the sticks next season. It's nice to know we have the huge Brazilian ready to fortify that defence immeasurably.
Does anyone else still call this the Charity Shield despite the fact that it's been called the Community Shield for ages?
Great win in whats just about the most important game outside the CL final....deffo not a friendly Joking aside, was truly impressed with the lads today, dominated for huge parts of the game a near full strength? City side. Did I read somewhere that at £650m Citys starting 11 is the costliest starting 11 ever seen...in world football? Thought Thiago was the best player on the pitch, totally controlled the midfield, gutted we didnt sign him in his prime. As for City. Grealish once again showing how he's just about the biggest waste of money outside of Lukaku he was awful, as for the weird looking Norwegian, could he have had a worse debut? hopefully thats I sign of things to come (but I doubt it). Was on the pitch for 90+ minutes and got totally outshone by a player who played not much more than 30 mins. City not picking up their losers medals was pretty shit too. Cant wait for the season to start now, game on!!!
Which makes it all the more bizarre City fans are whining about it...do they want the pen and the goal?
And the hilarious thing is, Liverpool fans wonder why no one likes them. The reason wont be because of their words or actions though, no it wont be their fault. It never is.
It's not like he was handled by Liverpool's defence though. Another day he scores a hattrick as he was getting into the positions, finding space in the box and at one point completely overpowering Robertson to give himself a 1v1. He's going to be a huge problem for pretty much every team in the league.
It’s all down to perspective isn’t it? You can look at Haaland yesterday and see a terrible display of finishing...or you can look at someone who managed to carve out a number of chances against one of the, if not the, best defence in Europe. In his second start with a new team. And if anything, yesterday could be a blessing in disguise. He’s obviously a very determined young man and that determination has just been fuelled.
