http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8070586.stm If True, what next? who can keep you up?
I don't think he will go. I really hope he doesn't. The people here love him to bits. Why would he walk away after the blood, sweat and tears he has shed this season? Also he is young, he has time yet. I think I am trying to convince myself he will stay. I dread to think of him leaving.
Really hope he stays at Burnley. He's done an amazing job and has started something great. If he keeps them up people will start talking big jobs in England etc...
Seriously, if he does decide to go then good riddance. We only want people commited to BFC. I would be surprised if he jumped ship as he is now managing a side in the best league and has a real chance to make a serious name for himself if he keeps us in the league. I think he owes it to the club/supporters to stay for this season, we plucked him out from a poor league with no real experience and took a chance on him. Yes it has paid off, big time, but I think he should stay the season and finish off the fine job he has started. If he does leave it leaves the club in a difficult position to A) Bring in a suitable replacement and B) Having enough time to sign the players we need to give us a better chance of staying up. All in all, taken the shine off promotion for me but no one person is bigger than the club. Times change and there could still be light at the end of the tunnel.
I think he’s going to go, the moment A Campbell asked him on that balcony was the moment for me. Burnley have released this statement however: "Contrary to widespread speculation, Burnley Football Club has not received any official approach from Celtic for the services of manager Owen Coyle. Nor will the club welcome any approaches for Coyle who remains under contract at Turf Moor." But how often do you see these statements and then next week they are off. I REALLY hope he stays, he’s God down here. I'm disappointed in Coyle. He has built his reputation on team spirit and confidence and he must see the damage this speculation is doing. He has had every opportunity to say in a straight forward way 'I will be the Burnley manager next year' - he hasn't. It’s clear he has been in contact with Celtic - not the sort of thing you would expect after celebrating with his team the biggest event in the clubs history for 33yrs! Only time will tell.. fingers crossed.
And if Burnley didn't come in for him he might still be managing in the Scottish 1st - it's all horses for courses but I guess there is no loyalty in football anywhere anymore so it isn't a surprise. I think he is gone too, at least it is better now than half way through pre season so it will give us a chance to hopefully find a decent replacement. Kilby's track record is pretty good - he let Ternent and Cotterill go at the right time, and bought in the right man for the job in Coyle.
Martinez would be my choice - plays the same sort of football as Coyle which would suit our squad to a T. Can't see him leaving Swansea though. Curbishley might steady the ship but as said, he is a bit negative.
Coyle for me too but not looking too promising Hopefully will be done and dusted tomorrow either way so we can look ahead to the summer/new season!
A statement has just been released from Owen Coyle himself, I’m certainly going to sleep easier tonight, UTC! "There has been no approach to Burnley Football Club. "It is people simply putting two and two together and making five. "I am going on holiday with my family this weekend and I can assure you I will be doing so as Burnley manager."
A statement just released from the Chairman Barry Kilby, he mentions he and Coyle are already talking about sorting out a new deal. 'We have received no approach from Celtic for Owen. If Celtic approach me today, tomorrow or the day after that, I will turn them down. 'If Owen was sat here opposite me right now, I would say to him that this is a fabulous stage and that he has to try out his skills in the biggest league in the world. 'He has a big career in front of him and a big opportunity to try his hand against the very best the Premier League has to offer. 'There is no clause in his contract that allows Owen to walk away. He has another two years remaining on his present deal and we have already had discussions on a new one. 'We have a job to do in the Premier League and so far as I am concerned Owen will be here doing that job next season whether Celtic call me or not.'
If Coyle leaves Burnley it will only be because it's Celtic, who just happen to be his team. It will be the toughest decision of his life if he has been approached by us, but i hope the Burnley fans don't harbour any bad feelings towards him if he does end up at Celtic. If he doesn't leave Burnley i hope he continues to be successfull.
