End of an era indeed, there's no obvious replacements for him either. Glamorgan have signed Mills from the Bears on a one month deal.
More incredible batting in The IPL with KKR scoring 272-7 against DC. The highlight though was David Warner dropping an easy catch when Narine had just got started and he went on to hit 85.
Although this announcement took me by surprise today, it does start to make sense the more you think about it. Aggers loves TMS and it makes absolute sense to keep him as its front man while a new correspondent, probably from a new generation, settles into that job. From my experience of them, his theatre shows are very popular and with the competition from TalkSport for tour coverage rights, it's probably as good a time as any to make the switch. For me, it will be strange to hear someone else introduced as BBC cricket correspondent seeing as Aggers has been in that job for pretty much the whole time I've been interested in cricket. I don't necessarily think the BBC will be keen to pension him off at the end of this deal, particularly bearing in mind that the great Brian Johnston continued on TMS into his 80s and until only a few months before his death. But I wouldn't be surprised if this was a step towards him bowing out at the end of the next home Ashes series in 2027. By then, he'll be around the same age as his immediate predecessor as correspondent, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, was when he died in 2013 and it'll be roughly 10 years since his wife, Emma, was diagnosed with breast cancer. I certainly remember my brother and I seeking him out at the Headingley Test match that year to offer some words of support based on our family's then recent cancer experience and, looking back, I think he was at that point where you try to cling to every bit of positivity that you can. Whatever his future, he deserves to be spoken of in the same breath as the greats like Johnners, CMJ and John Arlott. Enjoy him while you can.
Excellent chase by Punjab Kings, largely thanks to 61 not out in 29 balls by Shashank Singh. There's an interesting story behind his auction. Shashank Singh was accidentally bought by Punjab during the auction. They tried to return him because they wanted the other Shashank Singh (yes there is another player with the same name), were told they can't once they bought him, then they meekly clarified they wanted both Shashanks. Here we all felt bad for the lad during the auction, but he has been brilliant for Punjab so far.
CC starts tomorrow...if any games get to start with all this rain! If that story about Singh is true, that's brilliant.
The other is a 19 year old kid. Highly rated, but a kid. This one is a 32 year old journeyman, finally getting some recognition. Great story.
This will be the issue. Quitely optimistic for our bowling attack against Middlesex, our batting is going to be a concern though.
Wow more great batting from SRH who are on 57-1 off 4 overs who are chasing 166 scored by CSK. This is why i love The IPL.
Biggest surprise announcement (not) of the year so far; Jofra won't be playing test cricket until 2025 - at the earliest. I don't know why he just come out and say, "you know what, it'll be white ball from now on lads.." Archer will not play Test cricket until 2025
Finally Jos Buttler has found some form in The IPL for RR,in his previous 4 matches he scored 11,11,13 and 8 but he is currently on 50 from 30 balls.
Tale of two centuries. One slowing down considerably as he neared his hundred to ensure he scores the slowest century ever in IPL, & thereby not maximising the resources & probably costing his team 10-20 runs. The other not caring for the record & helping his team cross the finish line comfortably. You could argue for the former that he received no support like the latter, but this is not the first time the former has slowed down considerably when he nears his personal milestone, & thereby affecting the total of his team (country & IPL).
