You make with food that you really enjoy. The more embarrassing the better. I have just made 2x Chow Mein Super Noodles with frankfurters cut up into them. I've had this dish for over 20 years now.
That was a regular for us when we'd no Kraft Cheese Slices to go in it (half the time). My sister enjoyed sugar sandwiches (dip bread & marge in the sugar bowl). She lost all her first teeth very young. My brother lived off corn flakes and hot milk for a while (we lived on a farm so the milk was free). I remember being introduced the joy of cheese and beetroot breadcakes when we moved to Leeds. My personal favourite was a pint of Guinness and cockles. They used to hold competitions in the Students Union to see who could down one quickest. Just drain and tip a small jar of cockles into a pint - no need to drink the pickle liquor. I always entered then took my time to savour the combination as a way of getting a free pint.
Banana Butties with a sprinkling of sugar on them One my cousin showed me years back to which the thought of disgusted me, was in fact delightful, chicken soup poured over chips. Boiled Egg and Salad cream butties, orgasmic. A few years back I did a recipe for Sticky Barbacue Ribs I found on the internet, it was basically just all kinds of sauces Brown, Tomato, Sweet Chilli, Soy sauces mixed with a bit of Paprika and Honey/Brown Sugar...looked an asbolute mess of a concoction. Turned out they were the best sticky barbacue ribs I've ever had, they were delightful.
Never had it myself but when I lived in Newcastle there was a deli over the road that did some incredible paninis and sandwiches. But I can remember noticing one day that one of the set sandwiches you could order was chicken tikka, banana and grape
A butty shop near my work does a speciality "sandwich of the day" which often has something unusual involved. Nothing like tikka, banana and grape though Although I reckon grape and tikka would be nice. They did a hock ham, brie, jalapeƱos and chilli jam one that was well nice. They also did a similar one but with pastrami and melted cheddar that was an abomination.
Crunchy peanut butter and sliced banana sandwich has always been one of my favourites since i was a lad and i still have at least one a week.
Brown sauce sarnies was our go to, fighting over the heel (crust) with my older brother could get out of hand..
the heel was valued in hours for toast as it was thicker back in the day and would soak up more butter. these days they are thin and rubbish.
any pasta with ketchup is probably a hangover from ye olden days too. Italians would probably consider that a crime against humanity.
My mum bought me these from Home Bargains. I have them with cheese and mayo. Was expecting them to be horrible but are actually better than KFC Zingers.
A guy I used to know poured his morning tea over his cornflakes because he said it saved him time in the morning
Have to say my worst is pouring a bowl of cereal as a snack, realising I have no milk and resorting to a good ole bowl of cereal and water
Looked forward to Chips n Gravy for the first time when I was made to have some by some new northern mates (At Staffs Uni) Wasn't too bad, but prefer gravy on roast potatoes. Curry sauce way better on chips IMHO.
