Depends on the instructor. Your particular one might just be making sure you've got good general driving skills before starting you on your manoevures

Mine got me to do a reverse round corner within a week, turn in the road in the 2nd, but then it was weeks before I did parallel park, bay park and emergency stop.

    Ask your instructor.

I did 10/12 hours before I started manouveres. Ive now done 28 and have 2 hours to go before my test. 30 seems to be the average down this way.

Naa mate he probably is a better driver than me.. It was people saying to me first that they thought my instructor was taking me for a ride, alot of the lessons were just driving somewhere and driving right back home with him stopping for about 30 minutes going through some theory with me.

If you get the theory ground work in then the rest will be simple. The manouvers are not that crucial nor difficult in your test at the end of they day. You have a 40 minute test. 10 minutes max will be spent on manouvers. It makes sense to bear this in mind. Add to the fact that your instructor has a duty to make you a good safe road user in future life and you can surely understand why you are spending so much 'pointless' time on the road. None of it is pointless, its all experience. I would suggest you stop whining like a bitch and get on with it. Or if you want to boast that you can do a perfect parralell park after 3 lessons, but can't handle a roundabout, then change instructor

I think Im allowed to 'moan like a bitch' as you put it when Iv already spent £300 and am spending £30 each lesson. For a student who is currently putting nearly 80% of what he earns each week into driving lessons I think I deserve to have the ability to ask whether im getting the norm.

    £30 is shocking! :eeek

I'd advise you to change instructor for that reason alone. No instructor is worth that much no matter how good they are!

Your paying £30 for one and a half hour lessons. Thats 15 hours you've spent on the road. thats nothing. If your still going down the same dead end street after another 10-15 hours then i'd start to panic

Well most lessons can range from £16-23 per hour

    So to have 90 mins, take Adz's £17/2= £8.50+17= £25.50

So a more expensive lesson, it isn't that much of a rip off

Unless everyone else here got 90-120 minute lessons for £17, then that would be good value

PFC Mike said near the top his lessons were an hour and a half long. Thats what I would have paid as I was learning at £20 an hour.

Oh I didnt see the hour and a half bit  Thats not that bad then.

Have you had 10 hours, or 15? Id say you should be starting manouvres about now if youve had 10. If youve done 15, id just drop a hint to the instructor.

On another note, Im shitting myself about me test. Ive had 2 mocks, and failed both on really stupid things. Only got 8 minors though combined. TBH im more worried that it will cost £100 to redo it if I do fail. :(
