Very much a experimental side which might make things more interesting as presumably those picked will be keen to impress .

I remember the Rooney debut v the Aussies at West Ham in 2003.

Sven made 11 changes during the game and we lost 3-1.

I was reminded of that result when I went to Australia two years later! If we lose this I will never hear the end of it as I am married to an Australian.

I agree with testing some new players but surely it would be more beneficial to introduce five or six at a time, not change a whole team.

As a result we're lacking creativity and cohesion unsurprisingly, although Watkins should have scored. As should they with a couple of good chances.

    Basically, this game is pointless.

    Disappointing so far.
Lack of movement and poor decision-making is pissing away all the impetus we built up against Scotland.

Not the same team at all which doesn’t help.

    Very disjointed and laboured .

Aussies probably had the better efforts .

Hardly pointless - we've discovered 11 players we don't want to be relying on in tournament football.

10 players, thank you very much.

Dunk is for the second game in a row showing why he should have been in the England team for years. Stones, Dunk, Guehi & 1 other for the CB slots.

He has to be on current form, but you never know how Toney will perform in the new year and Southgate does like Wilson.

Good enough performance in the end from our reserves, was never going to be pretty with so many changes.

Any decent team would've buried those chances that Australia created.

I can only assume that players like Maddison, Foden & Terrence Trent D'arby are made to look good by the foreign players in their club sides.

Pray that Bellingham doesn't get injured or suffer a loss of form.!

    Dreadful, dreadful performance.

I've supported Southgate until now, but it's obvious he's reached his limit. No cohesion, no flow, no game plan - literally just players on a pitch hoping that their individual quality would carry them through. Spoiler alert - it didn't.

Bit harsh if based on last night ?

Hopefully would be better with a full team out but I guess Southagte might not be happy some didn’t their chance to really impress.

The BBC talking about Ollie Watkins being Harry Kane's long term successor.

    Yeah, I laughed too.

At 27 not exactly a youngster himself so not really that long term an option .

Good player who has made decent progress but not sure anyone can come close to Kane as an all round striker (English)

Could be a problem area in a few years.

For now a good option maybe as less injury prone than DCL (he didn’t even get on the bench at times during the last Euros ) or Wilson and suspect Toney won’t get called up again after his ban.

The lack of English strikers even approaching national team quality, never mind world class, is going to be a massive issue. The quality gap between Kane and everyone else is massive.

The fact Ollie Watkins is even mentioned in the same breath as Kane is an indication of the problem we will have within the next 2-3 years as Kane inevitably regresses. As Rooney wound down, Kane took over. I can't see anyone right now who can do that.
