Not inevitable Kane regresses tbh. I think he'll still be playing at a good enough level to stay in the team for a good few years.

Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Messi, Cavani etc have all played club and international football for a number of years.
Don't see Kane being any different.

Still think he'll be England's main man in five years and maybe beyond that.

**** me that was a dull watch. The guys in front of me left after 15 minutes. We left after 70.

    Got our caps though

Probably still better than we have played in recent weeks though!

he’ll be our main man for years to come. He’s never been a player to rely on his pace, he’ll go in to his late 30s at the top level imo

Considering you only really play teams of proper quality quite rarely in competitive games then Kane can survive knocking in goals against sides like Faroe Islands, Andorra, and Malta.

The problem will be knockouts in tournaments and the odd tough draw team in the qualifiers or group stages of tournaments. 2024 should be his final tournament as the undisputed first choice striker.

Though I suspect he probably still will be for 2026.

Why though? He's showing no sign of declining?

People said similar two years ago when City were interested in signing him and he's registered a 30 goal Premier League season since then.

He'll only be 33 (technically 32 for the tournament) come 2026. I expect him to play until his late 30's.

If he's injury free he'll probably squeeze in at least one tournament beyond 2026. I wouldn't be surprised if he aims beyond 2028 too.

I suspect he could still be first choice by 2026, I am merely questioning whether he should have that spot no questions asked by then.

It depends on many things - obviously whether he is still performing for club and country to a high level, but also if anybody has a fair claim to it. Drop offs can be quite sudden sometimes, Rooney for example.

I think the fact that he doesn’t really on pace, his strengths aren’t going to be affected as much going in to his older professional years. His touch, hold up play, strength and vision will still be there, as will his goal scoring instinct. I still think he’ll be a top player in 4 years time

For someone so honourable and virtuous, Southgate doesn't half like throwing England fans under bus.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Kane in the immediate term. He'll score more goals and look better for Bayern, but with the lower quality of opposition will that improve or hinder his overall game at international level.
