I was thinking this, I understand that UEFA wanted the tournament to be spread around the continent (let's face it for financial gain). But it's ended up with certain teams getting a huge advantage, this includes England who if we get to the final will almost play every game at Wembley.
If England top the group then every single game in the tournament bar the quarter finals for us would be at Wembley. Shame capacity is reduced. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
Totally agree - i also think it will make some other groups a bit more interesting. Hungary for example, awful group but play France and Portugal in Budapest, unlikely to change outcome too much but could make it interesting. Would have been better if they could have packed the stadium out mind.
Not against France. We last won against them on home soil in 1987!! (2-1, goals by Rudi Völler and Eric Cantona for France ). I've just checked it, the last win against France was in 2014 in Brazil in the quarter-finals. Since then we could only draw twice in the last 5 matches. France is a bit of a nemesis for Germany. Yes in tournaments we had some epic battles like in 1982 and in 2014 that we won but overall our record is negative against them (edit: 9W-8D-14L) I don't rate the home advantage factor too much, especially against France and in this covid-times. Munich Allianz Arena will only see 20% of the 70.000 capacity, that is allowed for this tournament (for Bundesliga matches it's 75.000 capacity). So it will be 14.000 allowed. Better than nothing, though. But I don't think the French players will be intimidated by it
As much of a fan of Ings as I am, he struggles with 2 games a week. How could you trust him for a tournament? Especially if you're filling a few squad spots with players who aren't match fit already.
I know ya I'm brilliant. I just wanted my first euros post to be a positive one seen as the one below it was negative. I'm like that. I did leave out Spain though
yes, that's right. But especially against France this isn't a factor, either. Because they're our direct neighbour and the distance from the border to Munich is not so much more than the distance from Munich to Herzogenaurach (aka Adidas and Puma Headquarters) where the team stays during the Euro. I don't think it would be a huge factor for us in both matches against France and Portugal to play at home in a 20% filled stadium. Overall I want to say that from day to day now the "joy factor" grows. When I opened the thread What do you expect from your team? a few days ago I wrote that the mood isn't yet there but that I know myself, when the tournament starts I'm "glued" in front of the TV, as always. And now I'm already feeling it. Can't wait And again; I hope we'll be playing a good tournament and that the team will give the leaving coach some good memories. Would be a shame if he ends with 2 consecutive group exits after reaching the semi-finals in the previous 5 tournaments before from 2008 to 2016. But this time it wouldn't come as a shock like in 2018 when we exit after the group stage ( I know that the 4 best #3 teams qualify, too). In 2018 it was a big shock that nearly nobody has thought about it before the tournament that we won't qualify in a group with Mexico, Sweden and South Korea. But this time with World Champion France and Euro Champion Portugal and Hungary it wouldn't be such a shock.
It's mixed. Some don't expect anything from our team and some just expect that we will improve during a tournament (what we've normally do in World Cups bar some exceptions like 2018, 1978 or 1938 ( )) Waiting for Löw to fail? Nah, not anymore, after he declared his retirement after this Euro. Before that most fans were already fuming that he was "glued" after such massive failures like 2018 and the relegation in the Nations League after that. Normally you would've expected that he would go himself and make place for a new coach. But now that he made his decision this year to go after the Euro the mood has changed: Before that some even thought that another failure would be good to get at least rid of him (which tbh would've been the case this time). Now after he made the decision the mood is mostly to give him a good exit with a good tournament. btw: Interesting stats of the Euro at kicker.de 21 Jahre, 38 Zentimeter, 25 Legionäre: Die statistischen Extreme der EM Most Euro players by clubs: 15: Chelsea FC, Manchester City 14: Bayern Munich Most Euro players by League: 118: Premier League 89: Bundesliga .. 39: La Liga 31: english Championship 29: Ligue 1
Italy is overhyped as hell since we missed the WC (hope not to be disappointed this time). I've never seen so much enthusiasm, not even in 2002 or 2006 when we had two super teams. That's very likely our starting eleven for the opening match 433 Donnarumma Florenzi Bonucci Chiellini Spinazzola Locatelli Jorginho Barella Berardi Immobile Insigne Verratti would have played instead of Locatelli but he's going to miss the first 2 matches. The other one is Chiesa instead of Berardi, but Berardi is ahead right now.
Don't want to be a downer scotland but it's pretty unspectacular qualifying for this lately. I mean Scotland finished 3rd way behind the top 2 and ahead of teams they should be beating. I mean it was all about one tie against a decent Serbia team
If we're chasing a game I'd rather have him coming off the bench than Calvert Lewin, who will only be effective from crosses in the air - of which we play very few anyway. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
They should really be getting the police involved in such shocking incidents. These footballers are running riot
