Fun? Listening to the winner's song and ours actually made me glad I have tinnitus. And unlike you, I had to help fund it.:(

Man, I've just been going through FIFA songs between 04-09 after your comment reminded me of those songs. FIFA used to have such brilliant soundtracks back then, even until 2014/15 to be honest with you.

Let's be fair though, most of the music today in our charts is a load of shite. And what does it actually take to get in the top 10 nowadays compared to other eras?

Every older generation says that about the new generation's music though. It's the way it should be, dads always think what their kids listen to is a 'load of shite', and kids always think the stuff their parents listened to was a 'load of shite'. :shrug

True but I do think that, in today's age of Spotify/de facto unlimited access to music of you choice, mainstream stuff like the charts and the radio have lost diversity of genres/types of songs. Until 15-20 years ago, the charts and radio would include not just pop stuff but also music from more serious but well known artists from all genres, while its almost entirely only pop stuff these days.

Knew you’d bite with exactly this comment Arky:laugh:

Anybody can say ‘what would it take to get into the top 10 nowadays’ but ultimately you can only beat what’s in front of you

I’m very glad the contest was hosted in Liverpool this year. The whole city seemed to massively embrace the competition and even though we finished second to last there’s been so much positivity about Mae Muller’s tune (she performed terribly but the song is a banger).

Says it all when a fully finnish song is #6 in our charts. It’s usually only the English speaking songs that get into the charts

I’d imagine it’s just that we had a genuine hit and then hosted it the year after, but it’s been so refreshing having so many people embrace Eurovision the last couple of years and I hope it carries on….. after all we’ve got a better record than Germany the last few years!

My musical taste has never been as wide, I used to be mainly hard rock, but I like a far more varied mixture of music nowadays. Where are the people like David Bowie etc? Alll the female singers sound the same with their wobbly high pitch autotuned vocal gymnastics and are the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Ed Sheeran really superstars? They are ok, but they don't excite me that much. Who are the massive bands? It may be a cliche, but it's pretty much true, and I see a lot of younger generation appreciating older music more than I personally do, with the current music scene.

True, but not me, I actually crave new music more than ever as I get older.

I think we all reckon we have eclectic musical tastes even as we get older, me included, but nevertheless I still have music from my teens and twenties on my MP3 stick in the car.

Because they're all on Spotify etc - Music has been decentralized and the mainstream charts and radio are no longer the main source for new music for people. And also because rock is no longer mainstream these days. Even the more popular new rock bands like Foals or Glass Animals make more electronic/poppy songs to have any mainstream relevance. Apart from those two there's also Royal Blood, Fontaines DC, and Nothing But Thieves if you want some suggestions of newer rock bands. There's Alt-J and Tame Impala as well, but they're a bit more eclectic.

It's that time of the year and we're hitting national finals, if you're keen on a bit of betting it can be quite profitable. Last year when Finland released Kaarija's song Cha Cha Cha they were 40-1 to win and immediately I knew it was something special. Within a day they were 25-1 and within three days they were 11-1. They didn't win in the end but an EW bet would have been quite profitable. Ukraine currently the favourite to win this and UK are 2nd favourite with the bookies as Olly Alexander is representing you guys. Odds on Norway currently are pretty interesting and the song they are most likely sending will finish top 5 if they send it. Below are potential Norway and Ukraine, Neither have been selected yet, and we haven't even seen Ukraine perform live yet. If anyone is interested in a bet, put money on Croatia top 5 now.

Norway, Malta, Ukraine and Spain supposed to select their artists tonight. Ukraine are having technical issues and will instead announce tomorrow, they are the bookies favourite. Norway chose this, I really really like it, can see a top 10 finish for sure:

Spain swerved a beige sing and picked this....

When that post was made you would have got 40-1 for Croatia to win... they're now 8-1

Also it looks like Israel will not be competing, they've submitted a song with political lyrics and are refusing to change them... :shrug
