Does it count even though it was a friendly? International Champions Cup Barça vs Celtic in Dublin, at the end of July 2016. The atmosphere in the entire city was pure amazing! Everyone was just up for good time & few beers and a football-filled weekend away. Even though absolutely hate them, got my first (and most likely last) half-and-half scarf!
Yeah totally agree on Fulham, great pubs and the fact they give you an entire end (with the "neutral" part) makes it a good laugh. Not sure why you're calling it a section though mush, you started thinking you're eastern european Other ones i've always enjoyed are, Huddersfield, top selection of places to drink round the town, decent fans and the ground is good. City ground, dunno why but always had a fantastic day out in Nottingham, good pubs although we had a piss poor record there for years. St James, Newcastle for the weekend and football thrown in. Can't really ask for a better weekend on the piss. Brighton (doesn't really matter which ground) same as above, one of the best cities in England for a piss up. Millwall. Some people might think this is a strange one but i like the away end and being able to drink at Borough Market before and after can't be sniffed at. Grounds that no longer exist but were great, Highfield Road, coldest away end outside of Stoke but was a great old fashioned ground and Cov could make a racket back in the day. Highbury, apart from getting out of it was a quality ground, tight to the pitch and before the seats went in a noisy place. Filbert St, again small tight ground, good atmosphere inside, only problem was it was a bit shady getting into/out of from the city center. Maine Road, if you managed to avoid the rat runs round Maine road (Moss side is NOT a good place to get lost!) then you have in Manchester a great place to drink, and in Maine road a proper football ground.
Favourite ever away day was Brighton in 2015. Early kick off. Second to last game of the season. We were top of the league, and there could have been any of us, Bournemouth, Norwich or Middlesbrough promoted automatically. Got down nice and early to the King and Queen Pub (9am I think), got absolutely plastered and headed to the game. Probably the most nervy 90 minutes I've had watching us. If we'd lost, we knew the others would leapfrog us (or so we thought) with just one game to go. Brighton dominate us for the first 25 mins, and our manager decides to make a sub to fix the situation. 10 minutes later Deeney scores. Then the whole of the second half Brighton are pinning us back, so much so that a lump of sand on the pitch actually diverted the ball away from going into the back of the net and making it 1-1. 94th minute, we're still pinned back in our box only for us to counter attack and Vydra to score a one on one. The celebrations for this goal will live long in the memory, knowing we were 1 game away from the Premier League. Go back to the same pub after the game. We had a slight chance of getting promoted, the odds would have been ridiculous. For the 3pm kick offs we needed Norwich to fail to win away to lowly Rotherham and Middlesbrough to lose to relegation threatened Fulham. Norwich are 1-0 up. Middlesbrough are drawing 3-3. Then all of a sudden Rotherham equalise against Norwich, and in the 94th minute Fulham take the lead against Boro. Couldn't believe it, we somehow had got promoted when at the beginning of the day it looked pretty much impossible. I don't remember too much afterwards, all a bit of a blur. I don't think it it will ever get topped for me.
Blackburn - big allocation, not far on train, been 13 times inc Promotion on my 22nd birthday in 2000 Arsenal - been both grounds and as close together its no different way to get there, one of few good reasons to go London Hamburg - went in 2002 for a Friendly, great City, loads of good pubs, went back 5 years later for a weekend
Norwich was always a great weekend away. Real ale, historic pubs, nice people & golf at Wensum Valley. We werr heart broken when they went down.
