Thought we could have a thread discussing finances, people can update their spreadsheets! Below are some accounts I could find from Price of football for 20/21. Post anything finance related or discuss! Stockport Chesterfield Notts County Wrexham Grimsby
Kieran was on our Gloverscast podcast this week to discuss our accounts, this is a transcription of his summary 'Club's future secure if owners have a long-term interest' - football finance expert - Gloverscast
I don't understand half of this tbh. What does stand out is Wealdstone and particularly DOVER making a profit in a season played behind closed doors. This is the same Dover who couldn't afford to fulfil their fixtures
I know we're not here just yet but our finances are a shambles because of our conman of a chairman. Don't think we will be matching the budget of a lot of the former FL clubs currently here.
Something about this guy rubs me up the wrong way. Same with the guy who does all the "languidly ineffective" graphs. It's completely irrational as the way they present their information is convenient but they just immediately get my back up for some reason.
Heh I love them, I just wish I had access to his spreadsheet he inputs all the info into, would make my own graphs then!
We lost £400k over the pandemic which isn't horrendous considering loss of income (20/21) At our recent AGM they said we were set to make a £50k loss this year (21/22) which isn't bad considering the number of players on our books (30 odd, think we budgeted for 22 - thanks James Rowe!) - but is also slightly concerning when you think our average gates are well over 6000 - and I believe we budgeted for 4000 odd - we also got around £400k unexpected income from the Chelsea game.
I’m just surprised that we have more than 4pence halfpenny in the bank. We’ve been carrying £1.5 m. debt for years, and we don’t own a pot to piss in. And people wonder why no one will take us over.
Makes for such grim reading. Unfortunately the majority of our fans, including myself, don't even hold anger towards Swann it's just apathy at this point. Think we are all resigned to the fact Scunthorpe United FC may not exist in the next year.
Dangerous mindset.... If fans truly believe that Scunthorpe are in that much trouble they need to organise fast. Obviously you may not get enough to take over as fans run, but if a prospective buyer sees the passion in a fanbase that could sway an offer? Worst case you have a war-chest to start a phoenix club lower down the pyramid if the worst happens. Clearly i don't know what the situation is at Scunthorpe and whether the owner would sell if the right offer was made...
There's obviously a lot more going on than this but from what I gather their chairman Peter Swann has written off all the debt that the club accrued since he's been there however as part of that he managed to transfer the ownership of the ground to his property and investment company so it's another one of those situations whereby the club is in a very precarious situation with the owner (or non-chairman in this case) having the stadium and ultimately the power and you could see him holding the club at ransom. As much as I take great delight in Scunny being bottom of the Football League and nailed on to join us down here next season, I really feel for their supporters in terms of what's going on off the pitch and would hate to see them cease to exist. In terms of selling the club too, Swann appears to be doing what Fenty did with us for years in that he puts out a statement every once a while to say the club is up for sale but in reality he's not doing anything in terms of actively looking for buyers. North/North East Lincs is most certainly not a desirable area for potential football club owners. It took us years to find a buyer and that only happened when Fenty was outed as being in cahoots with a convicted fraudster.
Just got round to reading the full Scunny thread on Twitter posted above. £41M on wages since 2013 including £8.1M combined in 2020 and 2021. Absolute madness.
