Dale, Daggers and every other Tom Dick and Harry making this whole takeover thing look easy. Poor old Southend. You have to wonder whether it's getting to a point where it's so convoluted, expensive and stressful that the prospective buyers simply get to a point where they've had enough of dealing with it all.
Totally agree SG, but the reason that he couldn't pay the debts for the club he owns i.e. us, is because he hasn't invested a penny in ground or facilities and all the money the club has made he has sucked out and ploughed into his developments and the Soccer dome (OMG), and using us to gain land in a Southend for his property dreams and other such white elephants, instead of running us properly as a sustainable football club and passing the baton on when a point is reached when that can't be achieved by him, like Rochdale, Scunthorpe and Dagenham recently. This guy was never interested in us as a football club, which is why he is so loathed and why this is such a difficult sale to finalise. It's a pity more people didn't see through him a lot earlier, but his deception is very clever. Unfortunately there weren't more like Steve Gilbert, who owned Wyndham Plastics and after getting involved with shirt sponsorship with him walked away after years of supporting the club. A great loss and a good mate. If only more hadn't listened to him 20 years or so ago. The money we are generating Ron is still taking out of the club as owner, which is why we have not announced Season Tickets for next year, so he can't get his grubby mitts on that cash either. The consortium have met or come to agreement with all the clubs debts, but it all comes back to Ron's web why this transaction cant be completed more straightforwardly. More will no doubt come to light to explain the complications in due course, and l may be in a position to explain a bit more in detail, but not ATM unfortunately, but it is far more complicated than pay your bills, sell the club, happy days. I only wish it was that simple!
I won’t pretend to know too much about the Southend situation but isn’t this about the 50th winding up petition that they’ve had?
18 from HMRC, although no issues there at present, thanks to the consortium and explained why this one came about in post 1737.
Although there must be something going on positively, as any building related work is down to the consortium and a commencement date of 1st June seems.................dreamland!
Latest news ahead of Wednesday's court appearance for the WUP from Stewarts Law LLP is that they have agreed to a further 6-week adjournment. This would seem to cover the 2 weeks remaining on the council's timescale to complete their financial DD, 2 week's for the finalisation administration and 2 weeks contingency. With CRBE, Ron's financiers needing to confirm their agreement, that should see it all done........we hope down here. Then we can get moving forward. It certainly sounds as though Stewarts Law have been presented with the evidence they need to publicly agree they are in favour of the extension to the adjournment period. The council elections have played a minor part in the delay, but only minor, as the main work on the DD has been managed by the council officers. Hopefully the final straight is now being entered and we won't have the same disruption to the start of the season that we did have to last season....Here's hoping.
I'd say you're already on the backfoot for next season, teams are already signing new players, another 6 weeks, that's a long old wait, personally don't think I'd touch a club who still had this hanging over their head.
Luckily we don’t need an overhaul and there aren’t any players out of contract who we must keep obviously someone could get bought..
All of our debts to HMRC and local companies will be paid in full as confirmed by the administrator. Only person not getting their money is the crook who put us in this situation.
Totally agree if that were the case, but as always, to our scenario, there is more to it, than meets the eyes. We are already in talks with target players and striking deals. Last year, once the embargo was in place, we obviously couldn't sign players. But negotiations took place and agreements made, so we could complete deals as soon as we were able to. e.g Adam Crowther had offers from us, Bromley and Barnet, but as soon as he knew we were interested, he made his mind up to join us as long as it took. 6 months later in his case, he joined. That's not to say that we didn't lose others, such as Dallas and McCallum, who weren't prepared to wait as long as others did. This year it doesn't look, and I say this very guardedly, like we will be under an embargo, due to the Consortium already picking up all the running costs of the club and more importantly, having the funding to do so. The key, is getting the deal completed for obvious reasons, but we are not as far behind as it would appear we could be from the outside, at this moment in time.
Still awaiting to hear how plucky Woking are having c. 2,000 gates on cheap season tickets and paying players £2.5k a week.
