Well that’s an away game I will not be attending.(if we stay up) Can not stand that idiot of a chairmen,
Sounds like they're in a bit of a mess. Sutton coming back gives the weird (but totally correct) scenario of two tinpotters going down so it'll be interesting to see if they struggle like nearly all proper clubs do when they get here.
They haven’t been in a regional league since the mid-90s. I don’t quite understand the vitriol for them and Dale Vince.
Seriously? Three cracking goals, and how can you forget Nathan Ferguson's effort from 40 yards out! (About 6mins 45s)
I am pleased that FGR have gone down, both from a tinpot and a self preservation point of view. Saying that, hopefully a few of their posters will come over as they are good bunch to be fair.
It's quite a disaster millions spent on getting them up to come back down with a whimper. Really don't want them here another a relegation will do.
A nasty season all around for the Gloucestershire clubs, with Gloucester City dropping out of the NLN into the SL, Forest Green dropping into the NL and Cheltenham still fighting against relegation to L2. Performance wise though it's all deserved, watched a lot of Gloucester this season and it's been awful with naive board changes, Tim Flowers-ball followed by Mike Cook trying to cobble together a side some weeks. FGR have been awful for 2 seasons now and have punched above their weight for too long, and Cheltenham had that horrendous run at the start of the season, though they have a chance after yesterdays win against Burton.
Why do people dislike Forest Green so much? Is it purely down to not being able to eat a fatty greasy burger instead of a plant alternative....or is it deeper than that?
I dislike FGR cos I watched us get relegated out of the football league there, and because in reality they are a village team who are way, way above their station. A hobby club run by a vain chairman, however well intentioned he may be. And because there's nowhere to get a decent pint anywhere near their miniscule ground. And, finally, cos of that f**king hill.
I think Dale rubs a lot of people up the wrong way as well. We had a cup game down there which they oversold, fans not able to actually get on to the terrace/held back by stewards for security reasons and Vince's reaction was to basically deny everything. Came across like a right dick towards well-intentioned people who wanted to give a local club some feedback on what they didn't do right.
It’s a vanity project by another moron millionaire, if he was so eco minded why would he turn a little village team into a bigger emissions entity? Grade A hypocrite.
Am I the only one who doesn't really mind them? Punched above their weight due to being bankrolled. That's frustrating. But not really any different to half the teams in here from what I can see. Can't say I agree with all of Vince's politics. But I doubt I align with most NL chairmen's Worldview. Not being a narcissistic millionaire and all. For e.g.Fylde's owner seems a cock and no issue hosting political guff at the ground. But I don't hold that against their fans. The BoD isn't the fanbase. Don't really care about the lack of a steak pie at the ground. Eat before or after. Most grounds at this level have grim overpriced slop for sale anyway. Nailsworth is a nice town. Decent boozers. Makes a change from the usual declining ex Industrial backdrop most clubs have. The fans I got talking to when I visited a few years ago were a sound bunch. Got a lift to the ground for free. The non drivers joined us in getting a few rounds in each and we hypothesised about us meeting again... In league one after we got our shit together for 22/23...Yeah that bit didn't work.
This pretty much is their level isn't it? Money gets turned off and they're basically a Cotswold Maidenhead. 1000 crowds and bobbing around about 10th-18th. Be interesting to see if they're going to throw money at going back up. Despite being bottom I reckon they're potentially the stronger side to come down. Can't see Sutton having as big a budget. Will be interesting to see how it pans out as I imagine a lot of clubs/fanbases (Rochdale/me included) probably eyeing up a play off charge for next year.
They’re not even a step 4 sized club originally, they were tiny crowds of 100 etc. think Oxford but smaller.
They were but they got to this level under their own steam without a rich benefactor. They had been in this league for over a decade before Dale Vince came along.
