Whilst I agree with the sentiment, think his behaviour towards others in order to cover up his cheating is what makes him the twat everyone thinks he is.

Firstly he’d wouldn’t have raised **** orbfor that matter be a millionaire if he hadn’t cheated at a bike race. Secondly he ruined other people’s careers in order to cover it up.
Secondly Jimmy Saville raised millions for charity are you going to sing his praises as well. He was a cheating corrupt Cnut although he wasn’t a wife beater so is probably a shade better than Maradona.

The Italian league back then had some of the greatest defenders in the world and some of all time. He took the piss out of them all.

I don't like Maradona at all. I think he's a racist, cheating, woman beating dick BUT, nobody can ignore what he did on the pitch. Messi is just as good maybe better as a player but he hasn't even a fraction of Maradonas mental strength, which is why he fails with Argentina. He can't step up when it's all on him. Maradona single handedly dragged the attack in that Napoli side to a level which won them the league. They had no right but he was an animal as much as he was graceful. That's what puts him above the others imo.

Added to that every tdf winner of the past 25 years was probably on something.

Tbf Napoli were a very good side, it wasn't just Maradona. Alemao and Di Napoli in midfield and Careca up front for a start.

Absolutely. Before Maradona Napoli wasn't known for winning titles (only 2 Italian Cups in the 60's and 70's). With Maradona they won 2 Italian Championships (still their only Scudettos so far) and a UEFA Cup (so far still their only major european trophy). That they even want to rename their San Paolo Stadium now after him shows how much they still adore him in Napoli.

His private life, that's another story but on the football field he was unbelievable.

Ridiculous comment tbf, Pele won three world cups and was kicked out of a fourth. He was brilliant in 1970.

Never said he wasn’t a legend. He is. I have his signature on my wall. His goal scoring record is very much padded out though and I think Maradona was a far better player.

Johnny, I’m totally unbiased in this. I can’t stand Maradona. I loved Pele when I was younger. Watched a lot of these two and I think Maradona was better. Just my opinion grandad.

As I said they were a top side, I saw them play. The idea that Maradona dragged a side of no hopers to the title is a myth, he was the icing on the cake but they were a great team back then, Careca was one of the best strikers on the planet.

I mean they finished 1 and 2 points outside of the relegation zone the 2 seasons before he joined them, shows just how deep the strength was in the league then.
