Seems like everyone is suffering at the moment, with prices going up.

Insurance really is a joke, and everyone suffers because of false claims and people going around fooking uninsured. Great.

Time to sell, use my legs and purchase a rail card me thinks!!

Unfortunately, insurance is an easy target. There's a story about where people place insurance fraud in a scale to other crimes. It came back overwhelmingly as the same type of crime as paying using a £5 note and walking away with change of a £10 note. As insurance fraud isn't included in Police figures, when fraudulent claims are found the worst that tends to happen is that the fraudster just doesn't get his claim paid and his policy cancelled.

As an industry, insurance companies are paying in the region of £350m a year in insurance fraud. They have to get that money back from somewhere in order to be able provide cover. Bear in mind that insurance companies, by law, must have enough money to match there claims reserves (a company by the name of Independent insurance were fined and went bust for failing to reserve properly, one of their directors is still in prison), and their only real income is premium.

Its a vicious cycle, and massively impacts those law-abiding citizens who get insurance and are covered, but them's the breaks I'm afraid.

I can understand why they are putting the prices up Si.

Just annoys me that yet again it's the normal folk who suffer at the hands of those who milk the system and drive around without insurance.

Ah well, that's life i suppose!

Sorted my insurance out. Sticking with Tesco. Paying a tenner more than I did last year but I have now changed my excess from the ridiculous £700 (Didn't even realise I did it that high) to a more reasonable £300. I also got windscreen cover and a replacement car added to the policy...oh and a £20 voucher to spend in Tesco.

You paid a tenner more but walked away with invaluable extras, replacement car = life-saver. And with the drop in excess you've potentially saved over £400 anway.

    Are Tesco on compare websites?

I'll have to check them out individually then. They seem worth a look.

Tesco gave me a renewal price of £688 (£11 higher than last year). I called them to cancel the renewal becuase I found it cheaper elsewhere, but amazingly they knocked it down to £575, which I will now be taking up.

    Pricks...

Play the game Sacko, and sometimes you win. :thumb

My home insurance came in at £265, I 'phoned to cancel and they dropped it to £212.

Ok, I MAY have got caught speeding this morning by a mobile speed cam. F*cking cock was hiding right behind a tree poking his gun out of a corner. Was doing around 36mph in a 30 zone. Slammed on as soon as I saw him but that wasn't until about being 50 - 60 yards away, so I think I've been done.

My insurance is due for renewal next Thursday (as discussex above), if I did get caught do you think this could affect the price of my insurance for next week, or could it have come to soon?

    So mad at myself...

If the summons arrives before the renewal date then you'll have to declare you have a prosecution pending, if it doesn't you won't. Most policies overlook 1 speeding offence, but nevertheless you have to declare it.

As the conversation is about speeding I'll post this in here.

I was doing about 38 in a 30 earlier, and a speed camera on the other side of the road flashed. There was nothing going the other way, but there were no lines on my side of the road, so I didn't think they could flash you?

It was one of the standard yellow and grey fixed Gatso cameras.

    Anyone know?

I don't think you can be done for speeding if there aren't any markings on the road, and Gatso cameras only work when you are driving away from them. Unless it was some fiendish new tax collecting device I think you're okay . . .

I'm with Tesco as well, have been since I started driving, always found them far cheaper than all the other places.

They normally take ages, but if you slowed down you should be fine.
