At this point I’d imagine most of the stuff in the papers will be very made up. The more reliable takes will come early summer.
What do you suspect is the price? The thing is, Toney clearly fancies a CL club but right now I don't see any of the top 3 being interested. Villa don't need him. Spurs and United are plausible but I think they'd be silly pay above £30m given his age and contract situation. United should stick by the young striker too imo. Thing is, the player has returned and ultimately he isn't setting the world alight for any top clubs to be clamouring to get him unless there is a good deal on the table.
I reckon we’d deal for £40m and he’s easily worth that even considering the contract situation. The £70m figures will just be a negotiating position.
I cant believe a professional football club has paid that amount without seemingly doing their homework. Was Ashworth the brains behind this? This could well be another 6-8 month suspension added to the one he already has
Because going by the original reports it was on a much wider scale than just Tonali putting some bets on, I can't quite get my head around it not being flagged from somewhere during the drawn out process of negotiations.
But he's weakening Brentfords negotiations though, surely? If clubs know he wants out then they'll lowball you. I appreciate that you don't need to sell but if they offer what Toney thinks is a fair offer and you reject it, you'll soon have an unhappy player and potentially see a drop off in form etc.
Not sure why any club would rush to sign Toney given he wants out and will be out of contract in 2025.
I don't know who buys him. I was quite convinced it would be us around 2 months ago but reading between the lines of reporting, I think we've cooled on it now. Liverpool? No. City? No. United? Are they going to hamper Hojlund's development? Chelsea? Can they afford him? Spurs? Need a wide player more than a striker imo. If they make the Werner deal permanent, that's three players they already have capable of playing up front. After that...Newcastle have Isak. West Ham makes sense but does Toney at 28 want to aim a bit higher than West Ham? Things can occur which make him a viable option but right now, where does he go?
Whilst the comparisons with Zaha are fair we need to remember that Palace essentially priced clubs out of a move, I dont think Brentford do that. It feels like a mutual acceptance that Toney is leaving, its a bit weird. Man Utd to me seem the most likely destination, no idea why I think that in all honesty. However, if Arsenal and Spurs see hes going for £40-50m, I think they both come in.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s less interest than reported because half the clubs that could afford a striker like that either already have one or likely can’t because they are up against FFP. We’ll either have to sell cheap or keep for another year. That’s what I reckon. The ban has really screwed us in a few ways.
Defensive midfielder? Partey is probably gonna go and there's all the other stuff with him. Jorginho is only getting older. Elneny isn't good enough and out of contract. I do think they should add another forward, but Toney is getting on and could cost £50m - that is a lot of money for a player who all things right, is a squad player with no resale value. I dunno how Arsenal's finances are looking right now. They've spent a lot of money and haven't turned a profit on player sales since the 2017/18 season. They've turned a loss 5 seasons in a row now.
I have replied to your posts in the transfer thread. I don't want to make a thread about Toney into a thread about Arsenal's transfer plans.
probably, sometimes they try pimping out players like they did for so long with Zaha and don't pay too much attention to see if they are trying it with Eze but obviously Toney is being.... Watkins is another although they may 'lay off' him because they would prefer to pimp out the players of clubs they see as going nowhere and seeing where villa are may prefer to promote them as top 4 (contenders) and that wouldn't sit well with pimping out key players
