You all know I’m not his biggest fan but credit where credit is due, he had an outstanding period and deserves the recognition. He wouldn’t have been my choice though. I’d have given it to Trent personally.
Was happy when we signed Hendo. He was raw but I thought there was a player there. In his first season I thought the shirt was too big for him, it took a while for him to settle, then he started integrating into the side from then on, and by 13/14 after almost being thrown out under Rodgers, was a stalwart of the side, and had he not got sent off in the City game, then perhaps that season might have ended differently. Once Gerrard retired, he didn't shy away from the captaincy and took it all on the chin when he was getting called all sorts. I couldn't be happier for him that he has come through all that now, and not only become tolerated as a Liverpool captain, but loved, and will go down as one of our finest ever captains. He is an example of the 'mentality monster' that underpins our success now.
His captaincy is certainly underrated, as it seems all the players love him and have total respect for him, two things a good captain must have.
He's been incredible and massively underappreciated for years. I know so many fans who will never give Henderson credit no matter what he does. He could score a hat-trick in the derby and still be called crap the first time he misplaces a pass. He's been a great leader and set a great example, I'm more proud of him than any other player in our team and he's a club legend now.
A snippet from The Echo's Blood Red podcast by Ian Doyle He said: “A negative, and a very big negative, came from Jordan Henderson. He had a collision with about 10 minutes to go. We could hear it from the press box at the back of the stand here at the Amex Stadium and it didn’t sound great. “He was down for a while, he got up, he hobbled off and I think he tried to come back on, but the substitution had to be made. James Milner came on for him and Jurgen Klopp said after the game it didn’t seem good. “He [Klopp] takes great stock in how players feel when these kinds of things happen and Henderson didn’t look happy when he went off and by all accounts, in the dressing room he’s not particularly pleased which doesn’t augur well for his fitness because obviously in a very short space of time, Liverpool have those four remaining games.
