I would also be surprised, cant say i would be that disappointed though as long as we get in Martinez
LIVERPOOL will splash out £20million to land Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani - but only when Xabi Alonso finally joins Real Madrid. The Reds have agreed a deal in principle for the Italian, 25, who has won 11 full caps and turned down Arsenal and Chelsea when he was 16. Liverpool are demanding £30m for Alonso plus a series of add-ons worth up to £5m more - yet Real are adamant they will not go that high. Anfield managing director Christian Purslow met Real official Jose Angel Sanchez in Barcelona before Sunday's friendly against Espanyol. Purslow admitted: "There has been no agreement. Talks have been very friendly but we need to continue talking." Alonso, 27, is finally expected to move to Spain by the end of the week. But big-spending Real have hinted they will walk away if the price does not come down, with Standard Liege star Steven Defour the next target on their shopping list. 20m!!!!!! that seems incredibly steep for this guy.
Yeah,i heard it is£15m.Looks a done deal doesn't it?.Just waiting for Alonso to Madrid to be confirmed now.
I think Aqualiani would be a gamble for you. For many years now he has been considered one of Italys top prospects but mainly due to injury has never fufilled his potential for any substantial period of time. We all know the transition to EPL from Serie A can be a difficult one as shown by Veron and Shevcenko and im not sure how well Alberto would do.
This^ imo anyone coming from italy to the premiership is a gamble, its not the same as say Spain to England where i feel the transition is less difficult. Pace of the game being the key here..... and tbh i cant remember the last Italian bar Dossena to play for us?
Liverpool close on Poulsen Juve midfielder targeted by Reds boss Benitez Sky Sports News understands Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen. Juve are open to the sale of the Denmark international and a number of sides have been linked with an interest in his services. Premier League duo Fulham and Everton are among those clubs said to be admirers of the 29-year-old. But it is believed that Rafa Benitez's Liverpool are in pole position to secure Poulsen'ssignature. It is speculated that the Reds' move for Poulsen could be linked with Xabi Alonso's uncertain future, amid interest from Real Madrid. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_5473593,00.html I have always liked him as a player but as replacement for Xabi I'm not sure whether he will be good enough tbh wonder if this means we wont getting Aquilani
Funny that Juve chose not to go through with signing Alonso last season, instead opting for Poulsen. Why do they want to sell? Suprlus following Melo and Diego signings?
This is the guy bought instead of Alonso, obviously not good enough for JV, so will he be gopod enough for LFC. Masch wasn't good enough for West Ham, so one never knows.
Yeah, that would be my guess I would also exept Aquilani to have signed for us by the end of the week now.
We're meant to have another 15m on top of the Alonso fee - we might well se two coming in. If we can get the price on Defour down he would be a good signing to go with Aquilani. But then, that money might be better spent elsewhere.
We will sign two players now IMO,this is if nobody else leaves A new midfielder and an attacking midfielder/striker.
Poulsen had a woeful first season with Juve. The Juve fans protested against his signing from the start and never took to him. He has a bad image in Itlay due to his style of play of persistently winding up of oppenents, hid did it to Kaka in the CL one year causing Gattuso to celebrate in his face when Milan won and the same to Totti in Euro 2004 which resulted in the spitting incident. He is a defensive mid like Mascherano and wouldn't be a like for like replacement for Alonso.
My thoughts too, he could be a replacement for Lucas if he returns to Brazil. I haven't seen much of Poulsen for Juve but he's was different class at Sevilla, and a big part of there success at the time.
Personally I think Rafa should buy one quality signing....If that means spending whats left of his transfer kitty after Alonso leaves then so be it. When you get to the stage we are with our squad I would rather see one A class player come in for £30m rather than two or three for a lesser amount.... If Rafa can pluck out another quality player like Torres for £30m we will all be over the moon
