I don't want a camera purely to post shots on here. I did a photography GCSE and I've recently decided I'd like to extend it into a hobby. So what is the difference between a normal DSLR and this camera then?
The main problem you'll find is the manual control. I've looked at a few reviews and it appears to be a good point and shoot camera but fails big time when it comes to having more manual control that you get with a DSLR. And at that price as well. To be honest if you want a point and shoot camera there's much cheaper decent options and if you want a DSLR there are cheaper and much better options. It's a camera that tries to give you the best of both worlds but fails to quite meet the target in both.
So what are the essential extras you'll need after buying a camera? Obviously there are things like lenses and tripods, but having looked on other websites it seems there are things like flash to take into account too. Would flash be a necessity if you don't plan to take photos at 3am for example?
Camera accessories are very expensive. I am not sure as an amateur you need anything other than a Camera and 50mm lens that comes as stock. I have a 250 mm lens and I only use it because I have one. Take it away from me and I won't miss it ATM.
Cheers. So you reckon something like this along with a tripod would be pretty much all I'd need as a beginner? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-D3000-Digital-Camera-18-55/dp/B002J9GIAQ
That looks very simple and tidy. Looks quality. I never used a tripod so I can't tell you how useful it is. Its a bonus I reckon. I see you you get a free UV filter as well ? You are good to go.
I'm looking to buy this camera: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-D...ptical/dp/B0031MA0ZE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top That's the best price I can find it for as it's at least £300 everywhere else. I was recommended the Panasonic Lumix TZ7 and that's £188 on Amazon but it's been out a while and obviously the TZ10 is a newer version. I'm only looking to use it casually, nothing serious at all. Will be taking it to V Fest and London in September. The video quality looks awesome to be fair. Thoughts?
I agree with this, this is all I use and when I got some photo's printed large the other day most have come out great still and they are a mix of close up's and landscapes.
As The Fuzz and speakers have said that's all you need. I don't know what sort of software Nikons come with for post processing, that's the only other thing you might need. I've got a TZ6 which is great as a casual point and shoot camera. Take great photos and the zoom is great especially.
My da got a very very good Sony Camera over here for €550. I'm sure you can get a fairly decent one for £400
That's one of the selling points for me. The zoom is very good and apparently you can downgrade the MP from 12 to 8 and get a 20x zoom at quality. Looks like a winner for me. The last digi camera I bought was a Sony Cybershot 3.2 MP about 8 years ago at £300 so this looks a bargain
i got a nikon d3000 to use in my media course and i've found it a really good camera and really easy to use.. it gives you a guide mode where it helps you set up the camera for the type of shot you are looking for which is really handy for beginners.. would really recommend it.. i find youtube reviews really helpful when looking for things like this.. have you watched any? d3000 review - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NZ1TReCHOA
You seem intent on buying inferior cameras but for more money. Just buy a decent DSLR. You can get a Canon 500D for the price of one of those.
