No doubt that Sterling has potential, but as he is English, he is severely overpriced. City could get de Bruyne for the same price and the likes of Draxler who is cheaper and better
I find it amusing when United fans say that Sterling is overpriced - whilst he is, they cannot call anyone for paying over the odds... Ferdinand in 2002 for little under £30mil, Rooney in 2004 for little under £30mil and just last year Shaw for about the same chunk of change! Sterling is overpriced, but considering what you paid for Wio 13 years ago, and he was 24 at the time – Sterling is only 20 with bags more talent and potential. Oh, and our transfer plans supposedly include buying Sterling AND De Bruyne... not one or the other.
Exactly! If you bought sterling for £50m and kept him for 10 years he'd still have cost a lot let per season than Falcao did!
De Bruyne would cost an enormous amount, he is under contract until 2019 and Wolfsburg have no intention of selling. In anycase I doubt he'd be in a hurry to head back to England after last time.
We've had all FFP restrictions lifted – our wallet is now open – from what we're hearing over here I expect De Bruyne to force the move and he will be a City player at the start of the season.
He said he wanted to move to a top club in Europe and even said he'd consider coming back to Chelsea I think.
Sterling certainly does have potential, but what a risk going to the graveyard of english players. Young players nearly always do better staying where they are until they get a level of consistency, one can only fear for the kid. City have a massive rebuilding job to do, and i'm not convinced they will get what they need this year to even stay at the level they were at last year. I see Man U and Arsenal and Chelsea as above them based on squads right now. Liverpool are coming up behind so it will be an interesting to see how Sterling will react if City are fighting for 4th place come the end of the season.
Dear oh dear – you either need to improve your trolling skills or stop believing everything you read in the Liverpool/United biaised media.... come on, which English players have we ruined then? Any of these boys..? Or are you referring to Scott Sinclair, who let's be brutally honest, just wasn't good enough?
Not true at all... He got a lot of game time, when fit... unfortunately he was mostly injured – his injury record at Everton was poor too, we should have never bought him because of that. It would have been exactly the same if he'd stayed at Everton... with one exception – he wouldn't have had a shiny PL champion medal on his sideboard. Also, as Mattledud says, he hasn't done anything at Sunderland really, neither has Johnson – truth is, only Sinclair was a bad buy... and it wasn't because we 'ruined' him, he just simply wasn't good enough! Now we have Sterling and Delph... Delph's stats show he'll be an upgrade on Fernando, and I think Sterling will go from strength to strength in our squad, with the better quality players around him – he thrived with Suarez at the dippers, now he has Aguero, and can you imagine him running onto Silva's slide-rule, defence-splitting passes?
Patrick Roberts signs for City. Despite all the stick City are getting, props to you lot for signing British players. Manchester City - the only club who get stick for not signing English players, and who get stick, for signing them.
Chelsea don't play youngsters but why would that make invalid that I hope Man City do? With logic like that I can only think you must have significantly below average IQ.
If I had a significantly below average IQ - I'd support Chelsea in Yorkshire! Actually - talking of low IQ, my post wasn't intended as a dig, but rather that as a Chelsea fan you should know better than to believe the media bollocks about them not getting enough game time! Sterling is a starter, Delph is better than Fernando so will get his share of game time, and Roberts is one for the future – yet I can see him getting a lot of first team experience as sub when we're in commanding positions or in cup games.
Cool. Indeed I wasn't having a dig either, I really do hope Man City play Roberts as he looks a fantastic prospect. Given a good amount of first team football this guy could become a top player. Same goes for Chelsea - I hope we start playing some of our youngsters as there's undoubted talent there.
So looks like Jovetic is on his way. Must admit sorry to see him go as the summer he came of the players we signed he was the one who excited me the most. However injuries and other factors have meant we have never seen the player he could have been. Reminds me of Bojinov who I always felt could have been more than decent but for injuries. Can only wish him good luck and hope Bobby Manc gets the best out of him... Shame he did not take Edin with him at the same time but can only hope Roma stump up the cash
I've been impressed with our dealings so far. Not too much haggling bar the Sterling deal which was always going to be blown out of proportion by the media. Now with Jovetic and Dzeko gone I'd like to see at least one of the young strikers promoted to the first team. I think it'll be Iheanacho as his potential is glaringly obvious and has also done well in pre-season.
