    You didn't know? ;)

London needs another airport or bridge across the thames (they must have about 30 of these already?), what do they do? Suck the money from either tax payers or lottery funds. Rest of the country meanwhile has to either borrow or raise its own cash.

Bloody hell its get better if you get the ok there offering Middleton an extra train station near Hopwood Hall College. Seems there very desperate.

    http://www.middletonguardian.co.uk/news/s/1077142_now_ccharge_could_bring_new_train_station

SLATTOCKS could have its own railway station under last minute changes to the congestion charge bid.

An eleventh hour alteration by Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese to the revise Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) proposals to include the station were agreed today (Friday) at a meeting of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA).

The heads of the ten authorities that form Greater Manchester agreed to look into the feasibility of constructing a heavy rail line in the Slattocks area, as they meet to rubber stamp revised proposals to the TIF bid to invest £2.8bn in public transport improvements in return for introducing a pay-as-you-drive scheme.

The last minute edition came after we revealed that Rochdale would receive an additional metrolink to the Kingsway Business Park and Heywood would also have a railway connection looked into, leaving Middleton with nothing but generic city-wide improvements.

Sir Richard Leese, speaking at the AGMA meeting at Manchester Town Hall, said: "I would like to add a station at Slattocks to serve both the Stakehill Industrial Park, nearby Hopwood Hall College and to provide some access to Middleton."

While the feasibility study was agreed under the Local Transport Plan (LTP), which is separate to the TIF bid, Sir Richard added if the TIF bid were to fail it would require LTP funding plans to be significantly redrawn, effectively meaning funding for the station would be tied to the TIF bid.

For a full reaction to the news a railway station could be built at Slattocks and full details of the TIF bid you will be asked to vote on next month, make sure you pick up a copy of next week's Middleton Guardian.

Tom I must take issue with you on quite a few points you have raised.

The train that left from Oxford Road to Cardiff was only going from there while engineering works was going on. But my son who lives in Newport comes up regular on the Cardiff train and I meet him on Platform 14 at Piccadilly.

The Metrolink could not possibly have a stop outside the Lowry Centre without it criss crossing the Quays and spoiling what is a lovely area. However what is up with getting of at Salford Quays stop and walking over the bridge. 5 minutes.

Next matter is that people of Greater Manchester are screaming out for the Metro link, you even said yourself that plans have fallen through and now I have shown you the blueprint you say you don't want the metro. Bury to Manchester travel time was slashed by 20 minutes. These trams do not stop for than 2 minutes at each stop along the route.

All airport trains stop at Manchester Piccadilly en route to Blackpool, The lake District, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The times linked below are to Edinburgh Haymarket

So as I stated earlier in a previous message, you can get a direct trains from Piccadilly to anywhere in the UK and the station is superb.

Yes local trains do go into Victoria but why are there so many train stations in London. Because you cannot have just one station in every major city that feeds the rail system in the UK

Now back to Athers and co. It's a fkkn disgrace that there as been no major transport from Leigh and the GMPTE wants a kick up the backside. I sympathise with those who use the bus from Leigh into Manchester.

Difference between Frankfurt and Manchester, Frankfurt is the 5th biggest city in Germany. Manchester has the second largest urban zone in the UK and the fourteenth most populated in Europe.

    Frankfurt has:
    Trains 342 long-distance 290 regional per day
Underground 36.41 miles of underground railway with 85 stations on 7 different lines, which arrive every 2 minutes
Trams 9 different lines, with a frequency of a tram every 5 minutes
Bus Buses play a minor role in Frankfurt transit since all major routes are served by rail based modes of transportation, leaving the roads congestion free due to the brilliance of the transport system

What does Manchester currently have? And if it was to have the congestion charge there is no way we could come close to having a transport section as good as one in the 5th city of Germany

While driving to work this morning, I noticed a guy in a shark suit in the middle of the road holding a banner. It was for the congestion charge. The outer zone starts literally 300yds from where I work.

Got my form today too, and will be voting no as I have done from the beginning.

    . . . time will tell.

The M.E.N. report that the majority are in favour, which beggars belief.

Our voting papers arrived today, so that's 2 more 'NO' votes.

    Quote:
Of those who expressed a definite 'yes' or 'no' opinion, a majority were positive about the bid in Wigan (55.8 per cent), Bolton (55.4 per cent), Stockport (55.3 per cent), Manchester (54.7 per cent), Bury (52.8 per cent) and Oldham (50.1 per cent).

In Rochdale, only 49.4 per cent said `yes', while the figures were even lower in Salford (47.8 per cent), Tameside (46.5 per cent) and Trafford (46.2 per cent). Some 26.8 per cent of people said they were still to make up their minds - meaning there is all to play for over the next three weeks.

Our voting papers arrived today also, 2 'NO' votes going in the post tomorrow.

True, but Glossop is in Derbyshire and I suppose they had to draw a line somewhere.

I've never seen voting papers like these either. You have to sign one piece of paper, put an 'X' on another and put them in separate envelopes, then one envelope inside the other. The signed piece has to be placed in the envelope in a certain way too, otherwise the vote won't be counted. It's almost as if they've made it as difficult as possible for people to vote . . . :whistle

Votes have to be in by 11th December.
Results out on the 12th December.

The pro lobby's TV ad (which cost £250k of taxpayer money) has been slated by Ofcom - where is the trust in them now?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7754746.stm

And the Manchester Chamber of Commerce has just declared itself against the charge too.
