To be fair this was supposedly an impartial TV ad., paid for as you say by the taxpayer, but has been withdrawn after complaints of bias. Why the f*** didn't they come out with this weeks ago?
Also interesting to note.... THE congestion charge Yes Campaign has been rapped for offering to help voters complete their ballot papers. Leaflets sent out by the congestion charge 'yes' campaign breached referendum guidelines, an official inquiry has found. Ballot Sir Neil McIntosh, the returning officer for the referendum, carried out the probe after claims the leaflet offered to help voters complete their ballot papers. The leaflet read: "You should have received your voting form. If you haven't received it or need any help completing your form, please contact the 'yes' office." It then gives the Yes phone number above that of the official helpline. Guidelines drawn up for campaigners in the referendum state: "If asked, it may be acceptable and often helpful for a campaigner to explain the voting process but never acceptable to offer to help anyone actually complete their ballot paper." .
To be honest its a bit PC gone mad although am against the Charge there going to do everything they to swing voters there way.
I got my voting papers in yesterday and I've made my vote. I've read the leaflet and it's rubbish. I've voted no. The choices of improvements for stations are laughable. Salford Crescent is in much more need than Salford Central. The inner ring is a joke meaning that those wishing to go to Salford University have to pay the inner band unless one car park isn't full. I'm someone that doesn't drive and is reliant on public transport meaning I'd want the improvements but the infrastructure won't be there by the time the charge comes in because of the high costs in setting up the cameras.
You need to get your hearing checked then because you heard wrong. He doesn't live in any of the voting areas so he isn't entitled to vote. Nice try but....You fail. .
I read it in one of the free London papers, could be wrong I spose. I don't care either way I just thought it was funny.
Just going off the thread title Isn't half of London up sitting in Old Trafford most weekends? Nah in all seriousness, I've been to both places and I think the transportation around London is the better of two but its way to busy (which you expect it to be).
The result of the vote has just been announced. Every area voted a resounding NO NO NO. !! Results: Manchester - Yes 43,593 - No 113,064 - Turnout: 46.1 % Trafford - Yes: 20,445 - No: 83,568 - Turnout: 63.6% Wigan - Yes: 27,810 - No: 78,565 - Turnout: 45.3% Stockport - Yes: 24,090 - No: 103,706 - Turnout: 59.0% Tameside - Yes: 16,323 - No: 83,105 - Turnout: 60.7% Oldham - Yes: 17,571 - No: 68, 884 - Turnout: 54.4% Rochdale - Yes: 17,333 - No: 61,686 - Turnout: 50.8% Bolton - Yes: 20, 529 - No: 76,910 - Turnout: 48.8% Bury - Yes: 16,563 - No: 64,001 - Turnout: 57.4% Salford - Yes: 14,603 - No: 79,326 - Turnout: 57.0% When calculated as a percentage of turnout, Salford was most oppposed to the plan at 84.4% while Manchester was least opposed but even 72.2% of the turnout was opposed there. .
In total over 78% of those who voted were against the charge, so a more resounding 'no' would be difficult to imagine. Well done my fellow Mancunians, the government blackmailing proposal has been kicked into the long grass forever, and with it the rumours that other cities in England were thinking of following if we voted 'yes'.
