Game in hands... 4 fixtures. Exactly the type of game we need to grind out a win but will lose especially if corberan is banned from the touchline(nothing has been confirmed yet) Cardiff v Blackburn Ipswich v Rotherham Plymouth v West brom Southampton v Hull. Away record is poor but need 3 points here with Hull losing. Still 5th but could drop to 6th depending how Hull get on. We have them away at the weekend too. Get 3 points and we go 4 points ahead of coventry and Norwich. Very tight the race for 5th and 6th.
Not sure if the facts back it up, but I always feel negative against Rotherham. Hopefully we can make it 3 wins on the bounce. Debating whether to take the mrs along, as I feel that it may be a curse...I can't remember the last time we scored with her there.
Weirdly nervous about this game against Hull, on paper it should be a home banker but Hull are better away from home than at home, and seem to be turning a corner right now. We will have a lot of pressure on us due to this being our game in hand, plus the expectations around the club won't help. If we start the way we did against Huddersfield or Bristol it'll be a very long night for us.
Those four straight defeats in League One are definitely fresh in the memory, although we beat them in the cup last season and drew away this season. Pretty terrible record and definitely a potential banana skin. Also expecting some rotation given the amount of games recently. All in all, may be best if your missus stays at home, just to be on the safe side
Even if you bring you missus along you are guaranteed a point because we have 4 strikers who have managed about 5 goals between them! Edit - I lied - Hugill has 3, Eaves has 2, Nombe has 2, Wyke nil to date.
A win and a clean sheet would be lovely but could imagine maybe a draw in this game against Cardiff. We haven't been travelling well and have no clean sheets in like 17 games I think!
I've always seen those strikers as good players, so I'm surprised to see the goals so low. Is it lack of creativity or have they lost their way a bit?
Last season we had Ogbene (now at Luton) going down the right with loads of pace but often the crossing left a bit to be desired but he did make some good chances. We also had Shane Ferguson on the left who is by no means quick but is a brilliant crosser of the ball, he is only just getting back to fitness after missing the whole season. We had Barlaser, (though we lost him in the January window, he still had most assists in the whole season) Wiles and Rathbone in midfield who were all good at creating chances so you are right to think that those four strikers haven't actually been missing loads of chances. Taylor was given the opportunity to change things around in the close season and chose to go with a load of "seasoned professionals" Shaun Morrison, Grant Hall, Lee Peltier all good championship players but sadly quite prone to injuries. What turned out to be our best centre backs, Cameron Humphreys (just back in the squad) and Tyler Blackett have been out for months, then we lost our only real source of pace Cohen Bramall down the left. Liam Richardson has come in and made us a little bit harder to beat but we rarely look like scoring and we need a complete reset this summer to find players that suit Richardson's style of play. In truth it's been a complete shitshow of a season, with thrashings at Stoke twice, Watford, Hull, Millwall and worst of all at Hillsboro' where we lost 2 0 but were completely outplayed and showed no heart, no passion or desire to fight for the shirt. 5 home games left to endure, I have only been to one away all season (a draw at Blackburn) we haven't won away for about 16 months so it's a complete waste of time and money. Time to go back home to League 1 I'm afraid. We just can't compete at Championship level with our crowds and income. The chairman rightly keeps the finances under tight control so at least there won't be a return to admins and rattling buckets. He isn't interested in any outside investment so even if we do come back up we will always struggle to compete. Most older supporters are ok with that, we've endured the 4th division, 2 admins, Don Valley Stadium, the George Kerr and Danny Bergara eras but the newer supporters who arrived with the new stadium and have had several trips to Wembley and 4 promotions are less forgiving unfortunately. That spells a hard time for the Chairman.
Please do. Some players just find a home that suits them as he did here. He was the main man and loved by the fans but you couldn't blame him for more than doubling his wages. Without doubt he would be welcomed back but wage wise he is now out of our reach.
I know it’s not far but being back in the North East must have been a big pull. He’s not been first choice much but we’ll have a few changes in summer I’d think so he can stake a claim for a first team spot(especially if Jonny Howson goes)
I'd happily have Barlaser here. I liked Hugill but he's a shit finisher, better with his head or just swinging his foot with his eyes closed. Eaves has always looked crap when I've seen him, him & Wyke seem like their ceiling is L1. No idea about Nombe.
We always seem to play badly or get disappointing results against Rotherham in the league so i'm feeling pretty pessimistic about tonight. Similar feeling to what I had before we played Port Vale at the end of last season and we managed to get a late winner after toiling all game against a low block.
Can't argue with any of the above, Hugill spends too much time on the floor, Eaves was terrible when we had him here on loan as a young lad and he is not much better now. Nombe should be fine next year in league 1, he has time to come good. Wyke - see Nombe hopefully.
Having seen our line up im not sure they need to, we seem to be giving it to them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
