Surprised there isnt already a thread on this tbh

There have been some great shows in the last few weeks (Strikeforce and WEC 45 were awesome) and UFC 108 is on this weekend with some interesting fights

I'm looking forward to seeing Paul Daley and the Gilbert vs Santos fight should end with a KO as well :)

    Anyone else interested in MMA?

Yeah, big time fan. The threads tend to come to the top when the UFC shows are on, and sink between times.

WEC was great as always, Cerrone is one of those guys who just never has a bad fight. The knockout of Horodecki was ridiculous

Strikeforce was way better than I expected, though I wasn't really interested in Cung v Smith at the start, it turned out to be an incredible fight, I can't think of a bigger comeback in any fight. Thomson v Melendez was quality, fight of the year contender probably.

I think Daley is probably gonna get subbed, I suppose it's the classic striker v grappler matchup with him facing Hazelett. There's no way Hazelett can live with Daley striking, but if he gets it to the mat early, it'll probably be over within a minute, his sub skills are seriously good.

Everyone's dumping on the Rashad v Thiago main event but I'm quite looking forward to it, though I am a Rashad fan. Probably is the weakest PPV card they've put on this year, but you're always guaranteed plenty worth watching on the Zuffa cards regardless.

Cant say im looking forward to 108 that much but its should be a interesting card

I think Daley will get a KO, Hazellet has only subbed nobodies and i've been told daleys take down defence is good

The match im really looking forward to is Yvel V Dos Santos, Yvel is still dangerous but i expect Dos Santos to come through with a decison. Hopefully Mazzagatti referees the match and DQ's Yvel

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkbWQu3ZkgY

The main event is decent, both fighters are a bit overrated though. Rashad has good one punch power but im not sure he's good at trading with people, hes more of a counter puncher. If Silva can get inside his reckless striking could catch Evans and KO him, saying that Silva has been rocked a couple of times. If it goes to the ground and Silva gets on top its over, his GNP is vicious

We need to make an official MMA thread so its easier for people to find

It really isn't! Well, put it this way, anyone who is even a remotely decent wrestler will give him fits. As good as his stand up is, he's just so one-dimensional and I can see him getting a string of losses in the UFC. Hopefully he can adapt quickly, his last win was huge and should give him the push he needs to step things up. Harsh to say Hazelett has only subbed nobodies - McCrory, Burkman and Goulet can all grapple, Goulet in particular is a quality grappler, would be a quality fighter if he had a jaw.

Sad thing about Yvel is, that's far from the only time he's been guilty of doing something in very poor taste. He's supposed to be a very nice guy to talk to oddly enough, clearly it sometimes brings out the worst in him when he competes. Always been a pretty good striker, but Dos Santos should handle him, I'm interested to see if Dos Santos takes the opportunity to test his grappling skills.

Good win for Rashad, unfortunately yet another fight where we were left wanting rounds 4 and 5. Pisses me off this UFC attitude of 'only special fights - title fights - should be 5 rounds'. This when you've got all kinds of little pissant promotions that put on 5 rounders, and the UFC decide not to give them to world class guys - even in the main event. Thiago showed great ability to get back up in this, not easy to bounce back up again like that against a guy like Rashad. Bodes well for his future, but I think he needs to diversify his striking game from this 'only way is forward' approach, or he'll get stitched up like he did against Machida again. I think if Rashad had used the strategy from this fight against Machida he might well have beaten him.

Hazelett - what on earth was he doing? Surely someone in his camp must have told him what was going to happen if he just stood there throwing front kicks.. that was ridiculous. Daley must be loving this, two fights against quality guys, and only one sloppy single-leg attempt to defend. I'm pleased for Daley that he's found the spotlight now, but it's going to be annoying hearing people talk about him challenging GSP... Too many guys in that division that can wrestle and would flat out rape him.

Whilst there was always the possibility of that though, I certainly didn't see the Stout win coming. Even considering Lauzon gassed out early, Stout was very impressive, easily the best I've ever seen from him. As harsh as it sounds, I've always considered Stout a non-factor, wasn't interested in watching him because he was so one-dimensional - but this performance changes all that. Great post-fight interview as well.

And from that to a one-dimensional striker who has never advanced anywhere else, Duane Ludwig. Didn't expect Miller to light him up standing though! Another good win for him.

No surprise in Cigano's bout, wouldn't surprise me if Yvel was cut immediately.

    :rolleyes

Some big cards coming up, the injuries at the end of the year means the cards are going to be stacked in 2010

UFC 111 looks the best card for some time, Hardy/GSP, Carwin/Mir and a rematch between Alves/Fitch.

and 112 in Abu Dhabi looks like it will have two title fights in MW and LW.

Been done about a million times over before Lesnar had even heard of MMA. In Japan in particular, the two (pro-wrestling and MMA) are very closely linked. Besides which Lesnar may never return, it's all still up in the air. For every article that says he should be able to be 100% again, there's one saying exactly the opposite.

Good point, never really thought about it like that, but as sparse as it's been for the UFC recently, they'll be flooded with big names ready to fight soon enough. Speaks volumes about how well they run things when they can still put on quality cards with so many injuries.

Miller v Bocek will also should be quality at UFC 111, it does look a cracker. In fact the next few cards look very good, barring the Coleman v Randy main event.. it does have its own appeal, but come on... there are more meaningful prelims than that bout.

But coming up this weekend, WEC and UFN should be great as well. WEC lineup is immense, come on Urijah!

I imagine it will be. Checked the schedule, but nothing much from April onwards is on there, I'm sure it'll be on though. Australia is definitely on.

Was flicking between channels the other day to the UFC Best of 2009 show, just to see which fights they showed. Didn't seem to be a very good 'best of' show, it had Franklin v Belfort on which was probably one of the poorest main events of the year, where practically nothing happens, and it's won with a grazing blow no less! Shogun v Liddell, a 4 minute domination as I remember, nothing much to see. Mir v Lesnar II, not terrible, but hardly worthy of a show like this. Couture v Nogueira was the only bout I noticed that was worthy of being on there.

Don't know why I'm even bothering to say, thinking back to last year's, it was full of one-sided beatdowns and missed most of the best bouts they had in 2008. Sort of defeats the objective though when you just shove a load of names and title fights on there, regardless of their quality.

Yeah that was another one-sided bout they had, but I can understand them putting that in, it was just the most complete and utter domination by one fighter of another, the kind which isn't seen often. Anderson was just having a ball. It was a good bout to show just for people to see what someone like him can do to ordinary fighters.

Probably the worst, least relevant main event in a long time. However, I'll let them off since there are so many great cards coming up..

Wouldn't be surprised to see Coleman put Randy on his back. I think Randy should comfortably be able to ride it out until Coleman gases, and may even get a TKO if Coleman is completely ****ed.

Marquardt should outclass Sonnen. Can never underestimate Sonnen's wrestling, but I'd be surprised if he could hold Nate down and rough him up.

Maia v Miller should be a good watch. Miller may try to turn this into a striking contest, I think he probably has to. Has a good bjj game himself, but Maia is on another level and I think he should get the win.

If they were both in their primes, I'd take Trigg every time over Serra, but I think he's perhaps further beyond his prime than Serra is. Tough to call this, but I'll still side with Trigg. Stylistically a nightmare for Serra.

Paulo Thiago v Swick is also very hard to call, I imagine Swick is a favourite, but I see it as a pick em fight, I'm inclined to go for Thiago just because he's the underdog.

Some nice stuff on the undercard, would like the chance to see Phil Davis and Ronnys Torres.
