Looks like they might have been right. Take 2. You might even get on Road Wars or that insurance cheats programme...
Gutted, just wish it had happened before wasting money getting it through its MOT. Just had to spend £108 hiring a car for a week too while we decide what to do.
Thanks for picking this up LFC Bird, do you fancy a job as a PA for a high flying expert such as myself?
Not by much it didn’t, definitely worked out better doing the insurance job. And I got to keep my no claims discount too.
Hundreds of pounds unfortunately, were looking at getting a smaller car on pcp maybe 1.2 or 1.4 and the money saved on petrol (I’m currently spending on average £55 a week) will hopefully just about cover the pcp cost.
We've just bought a smaller car mainly because the wife and I are a couple of oldies and modern cars are much easier, and safer, to drive (we drove an old 1988 Camry before this one), we chose a 2011 1.3 Toyota Yaris which set me back £3k - we live in nz so cars cost more here - and the little car goes great. Good luck mate.
Think I must’ve walked under a ladder. Went to Hull today in the hire car then just driving out of Hull when I notice a yellow exclamation mark light on the dashboard, check manual and it’s a tyre pressure warning light so I check my tyres and ones as flat as a pancake. Ring the RAC which the car is covered by at 6PM and they say they’ll send someone out to replace tyre (no spare tyre in boot) at ETA 7:50PM. Then the call back at 7:45 saying sorry the guys got held up so we’ll send a local contractor out but he won’t be there until ETA 9:50PM. Oh and he doesn’t have a replacement tyre so we will have to be towed home instead and then sort out a replacement tyre ourselves tomorrow. By this point we’d all lost the will to live and thankfully the guy arrived early around 9:20 and we got home for around 10:10. So another £40 - £50 I’ve gotta fork out tomorrow on top of all the rest I’ve paid this week for MOT and hire car. All in all, fair to say I’m pretty pissed off. Bollocks.
Under the terms I’m responsible for replacing it as it wasn’t a fault with the car itself, gonna take it to Bush Tyres in the morning as my Dads mate works there so hopefully might get it a bit cheaper. Fingers crossed. Would’ve taken it today but they were closed so had to just make do without a car for the day.
Right, I'm with you....sort of, different rules for different countries I suppose mate, here in NZ a hire car company can't hire out a car unless it comes completely road worthy (that includes ensuring a spare wheel is included with the car) also they (the company) are responsible to arrange for someone - usually the AA here to attend the call out and get the car going again at their expense.
Not always. Last time I had a hire car it was a courtesy car because mine was written off in a collision. When they delivered it they asked for £40 "collision damage waiver" which I didn't pay as it was their car provided under the terms of my insurance. I had the car 4 weeks and the day before they were due to collect it I got a puncture, and had to fit the spare spacesaver wheel. I rang them and they said that was part of the "collision damage waiver" policy so the puncture was my problem. I took the wheel to Direct Tyres in Stockport and of course the puncture was unrepairable, and a new tyre was needed. I was happy to have them stick on the cheapest avalable but they advised that since the car only had 4,000 miles on it and the tyres were all Michelin Pilots I should fit the same again as they would check, so it cost me £170 for a new Michelin. By the time I got home from work with the new wheel/tyre and fitted it I didn't use the car again so when they collected it the following morning one of the tyres hadn't travelled a single inch.
