No chance. Man United can finish on maximum 70 if they win all their games and Newcastle can finish on maximum 68 winning all of theirs. Spurs realistically only need 3 wins to confirm, 2 might be enough. If they do fall to 6th then his job should be under question though. That would be an almighty collapse given the promise they've shown at times - and the fact they've had the lightest schedule.
It's been longer than months. It's been a few years now with the odd spell of good play or a couple of players in some real good form keeping us up there. Currently however we are looking like we have no players in form, no players with any fight and no plan B as our only striker is out with an injury again. It still makes me laugh that many fans rate this as our best defence of the premier league era. We've looked like we concede big time for a while but no teams have taken the opportunity and to be honest, I didn't think Newcastle would be that team as they don't strike me as the kind of side who put away a huge amount of their chances but they could've had 8 or 9 today. Van der ven had probably his first bad game I've seen him play for us but Romero was once again useless. Udogie is a liability at the back at the best of times and Porro isn't that great defensively either. We're there for the taking most games. Maddison hasn't returned from injury with the same impact he was having. At times he looks lost in our midfield. Lo Celso has been offering more when called upon. The central midfield pairing apparently isn't clear as it's continuously rotated which can't be helping anyone. The one who seemed to be consistently doing well was Sarr but seems to have gone out of favour since the afcon. Bentancur shows glimpses of what he was like before his injury but again looks off the pace still and I still don't know what Bissouma is meant to be doing in there but he's either everywhere or nowhere. The front lot. Where do we start? Son feels like prime Dele Alli at the moment. Often has matches where he is nowhere to be seen but pops up with a couple of assists and/or goals and everyone is raving about him when his overall game has dropped so much. Werner and Johnson both show so much promise usually until the final ball or shot and it all goes to shit. Kulu is another one who doesn't look like he's recovered from his injury. I think we might be missing Kane. As for Ange and Plan B. Whilst he doesn't necessarily have that much of a plan b, what I do like about him is he's not scared to sub off big names where other managers in our recent history have. Look at the Son sub today, he was a passenger in the game and he took him off, in previous years Son would have sat on that pitch until the final 5mins or so. The one major criticism I have is when teams such as Newcastle today push up on our goal kick and overload our defence and cause us problems time after time by pressing, it doesn't hurt to play the odd longer ball tactic to get the ball in to the midfield quicker... I know he's come out saying we play our game regardless but you need to adapt sometimes! Is Ange the right man? Who knows. I think he needs a proper transfer window to show us what he can attract first but looking at what we're currently achieving, do you want to go to Spurs over other clubs? Probably not.
Blessing in disguise that I missed it. Inevitably a lot of unhappy Spurs fans. Difficult fixture, on to the next. We'll not be much worse off come the end of the weekend if Arsenal win.
Julian has been sniping at Ange for a while tbf. Most know we're a work in progress still. We lost 6-1 at Newcastle last season and were 5-0 down at HT I think so this is progress In all seriousness, I think most Spurs fans knew there were going to be good and bad days this season. Next season is where Ange will be judged more harshly.
I agree he shouldn't be harshly judged yet, though if they don't qualify for the CL it would be pretty poor, but reading the suggestion he hasn't had a proper transfer window yet is off the mark for me. The squad obviously isn't where he ideally would want it yet, but he's had £150m net spent since joining... and that is having recouped over £100m for a single player.
Fickle? Most fans were bigging this guy to be the second coming, “just wait until it clicks mate, it usually takes about 6 months then you’ll see what Angeball is about.” 6 months later and we don’t play any shit. Every game, same tactic, despite ample proof that it’s not working. Bbbb but that’s who we are mate. I’m starting to suspect the football we’ve played at the start of the season was more of a coincidence than a show of what we really could do. We’ve lost pretty badly in Pochettino’s first season aswell but it didn’t take him 6 months to show the signs of what he was trying to implement. But for whatever reason, this Postecoglou guy is given a free pass. Maybe fans are more interested in his “mate” at press conferences than the (predictable) way we play.
Thought most Spurs enjoyed the attacking style he has implemented over the dull defensive football of Conte and co. Or as ever is that only when it works and gets results ?
