Surprisingly, my PS4 never cut out. Even when the Weather was hot, it still never did.

Think I might know why it has happened. I did have it vertical and there is a vent there. I've put it horizontal disc side down. Maybe it was a ventilation problem but I'll clean the dust and fan.

I'll monitor it now and see what happens. Some YouTube just clips also suggest Power issues but suppose it could be anything.

Good job it happened after I completed a 10 lap race

I had something similar with my original PS5 back in 2021, before I sent if back for a refund, it was without doubt a hardware issue. It wouldn't switch off, but would regularly restart for no reason at all. Nothing like this on my new one though, which is based on the new 6nm SOC.

First thing I'd suggest is remove any external USB drives that are connected. I'd also try a different
power cable and plug it directly into the wall rather than an extension cable, if that is what you have. Also, try to use it horizontally as there is a known issue with liquid metal gathering at one end of the SOC when vertical. The PS5 is also well known for simply turning off when it overheats, without giving a warning or even telling you it has turned off due to a overheat when you restart, rather giving a non-specific error like you're getting.

    Cheers.

I got this 1 last year. Now, the 1st time it happened I sent the report which appeared on screen. Then literally a minute later an update came through so sorted that. Happened again but no update. Mine switched off and wouldn't come back on via the controller so had to press power button.

I've layed it horizontal now and Don't have any external USB Drive but I did install SSD 2TB last year shortly after buying. It's the Samsung SSD.

I'll look to switch to the power source rather than use the extension lead. Only use that as where my set up is in My room, only got a double socket.

I'll monitor it like this now.

This happened with my sons PS5. I took it to a shop and they said it was due to the liquid metal interface.

I did notice it only happened when the weather was really hot. They repaired it but think it cost me about £100.

I've played it Horizontal today for a few hours. Will see how it goes.

The issue was happening in cold weather. I try to avoid playing consoles in Hot weather mainly for this reason.

Me ain't paying no £100

Think I might have got to the bottom of it. Happened yesterday again and the error was CE-108262-9. Read into it and it may be the HDMI link to TV. I have universal settings so when I turn the TV on and it's on that HDMI channel is on it'll automatically turn the PS5 on. Or if I switch to it etc. Will disable it when next on it and see if it happens again.

Firmware is up to date. I thought it may have been an issue with Gran Turismo 7 but the actual system was shutting off.

    Update: done it again.

So, trying another YouTube video fix and if that doesn't work then not sure what to do.

Did you end up getting to the bottom of this? You can change the liquid metal by yourself btw. I'd recommend looking into that. There's a guy on you tube that fixes broken consoles and he has a video on doing it.

I haven't been on much since it last happened. The last time it happened I had the console flat rather than standing.

Now, last week Gran Turismo 7 or the previous update details mentioned a fix about it crashing after certain missions or Races have been completed. I'll go on the races that it happened on before and see what happens.

I'll look into the YouTube links too. I did have it vertical for a while so maybe it's balancing out again?

Possibly yeah. Check out the game fixes first. I've always used mine flat. I knew it had liquid metal in and you should always try and keep that flat. haha

I'll keep an eye on it.

I honestly didn't know it had Liquid Metal. At the moment I only play Gran Turismo as nothing else available that I'm into.

It's hot weather too so overheating can be a problem too.

I appreciate that it's smaller but I prefer the look of the original which has grown on me over the years. But this doesn't surprise me, given that, for me at least, that has been the case with every Playstation generation since the original in the mid 90s. The slim versions of each always looked a bit cheap and plasticky in comparison to the originals. Which makes sense, given that they're primarily about saving money for Sony.

The worst example of this was the PS3. The OG was a thing of beauty for me (even though I never owned one as I was firmly 360 that particular generation), but they then reduced it to something that looked like dirge in comparison.

The issue for me with the PS5 is the size and the unnecessary plates. The latter being a waste of time and space.

The OG PS3 was beautiful. The gloss finish was very classy.

The PS5 is indeed a large console, but it doesn't effect me. I have it on a shelf in the living room next to my TV, having it 30% smaller would offer no benefit.

Slim 1 might work well for me as I can slot it in the open shelf on my cabinet. Will be a neat set up.

Whilst I haven't been on the PS5 for a while and it's been horizontally laid, I'm not sure if the previous issues I had when it would cut out or shut the game down has been sorted. Done updates etc. Guess when Metal Gear collection is released I'll be on it a fair bit.

The issue with liquid metal is that, if a section of the SOC wasn't sufficiently covered for a time, it could have resulted in oxydisation of a small section of both the SOC and heatsink surface, and this can only be solved by a proper clean of both surfaces to remove the oxydisation. Moving from vertical to horizontal won't fix that as the liquid metal won't make a proper contact with either surface where it's oxydised, even if it subsequently covers it. You might find this is what has happened.

This clean is a relatively easy end-user process providing you're willing to lose your warranty and you have some cotton bud sticks, and you have the tools to open it. You might also need some additional liquid metal. I performed it for a friend on his 2020 Gen 1 PS5 fairly recently - his PS5 was shutting down/resetting every few hours and his warranty had already ended. The most dangerous part is that liquid metal is highly conductive, it's imperative you only keep it in the SOC enclosure and don't get any of it on the logic board.

See from 2:15 onwards in this video, this is exactly what I did.

    Oh bummer!!

I'll check the video out soon. Being honest, don't really fancy cleaning it myself. I've become so clumsy and bound to get it wrong

Cheers for the heads up. Shame the warranty finished earlier this year.
