He might rotate one or two of the players showing fatigue but no way he'd make wholesale changes at this stage. Maybe Hendo for Rice as he looked knackered for example.
Just can't see the likes of Philips and McGuire not getting booked .The squad is there for a reason .Ifully understand the next game is all that matters but i think you have to ask, do we want to go as far as possible or do we want to win it .A gamble either way just a thought really .Me personally .I would rest one of Rice or Philips 100%.
Missed want i meant , you may only go to the next round as your top players are suspended and you are not good enough to reach the final .I worded it really badly sorry .
Rice (booked after 8 minutes) and Phillips (45th minute) never got a second yellow vs Germany, they're not daft, so I could see them not getting booked. And if they do we just play Henderson who must be pretty fit by now so no big deal. Maguire is too important to the team to rest in a must win game. I'd only rotate for fitness reasons personally.
We have a squad and we should use it, I agree, but Southgate should also pick the side he feels is best able to beat Ukraine. If that means Rice, Phillips and Maguire, then we can always sub them late on when/if the game is under our control. It’s nice having options in every area — I’m sure Hendo, Bellingham, Mings, White would be able deputies against Denmark/Czech Republic should we make it that far.
My predictions Spain 2-2 Switzerland (Spain win in extra time) Belgium 0-2 Italy Czech Republic 1-4 Denmark England 3-1 Ukraine. Agreed, I think he'll stick with the 3-4-3 with Henderson or maybe even Grealish in the centre. Shuffling things now makes no sense, at least start the game with some consistency but ring the changes as early as possible.
Lets be honest. if Rice or Phillips got booked, Henderson is hardly a downgrade on either of them. Replacing Maguire maybe a bit trickier though as he's our dominant CB in this squad.
I would go back to a back 4 and bring in Grealish for one of the right backs, but other than that, I don't think we should be tinkering with the team.
I would definitely rotate Henderson in for Rice as well as bringing in Mount/Grealish/Sancho for one of the 5 defenders. Thought Sterling was excellent in the middle against Germany, wouldn't be opposed to seeing him there making runs off of Kane.
Same here, too. It would've been better to wipe out the yellow cards after the group stage. Fresh start in the knockout rounds for every team. But at least they have now, since a few years the rule that the yellow cards are wiped out after the quarterfinals, so you can't be out of the final when you get a 2nd yellow in the semi-final. Germany's Michael Ballack was a victim of the old rule at the World Cup 2002. I still remember it like it was just yesterday. He got a 2nd yellow card in the semi-final against South Korea (yes back then in the Japan-South Korea World Cup they were in the semi-final....Germany I mean ) . It was a tactical foul and absolutely needed in this case otherwise the South Koreans would have been 1-0 in front. Michael Ballack "took one for the team" here, knowing exactly that he would be banned for the eventual final (against Brazil). And a few minutes later, still in the knowing that he misses the final, he scored the 1-0 winner for Germany. Final against Brazil, without him. Hero, though!!!!
Wales had 2 key players (Ramsey and Davies) miss the semi-final of Euro 2016 after picking-up their 2nd yellow of the tournament against Belgium in the quarter-final. Too harsh.
