£2,700 for a ST170!??!?!?! I only paid £1,900 for my RS, and that has twice the power! Keep away from that Corsa though. Funniest looking motor i've seen in a while.
Seriously, don't buy a corsa, you'll outgrow it within 6 months. Can't stress this enough. awful car. If you want alternatives consider the Focus, Golf (better in many respects than the focus, but not my personal preference), Fiesta (plenty of mods available), Polo (look sh*te imo), and the eurotrash; (307, saxo (as bad as the corsa imo). Insurance would probably be insane, but a honda civic is definately worth a look, 1998-2003 should be in your price range. fantastic engines, bit skimpy on the interiors imo.
There's nothing wrong with a Corsa if all you want is a runner to get you from A to B. My one is still going strong after 8 years and only 30,000 on the clock.
Don't go with that corsa. Too charv look, and well make you look like a complete knobhead. Every car i've had in my time, i have never modified it in any shape or fashion, it totally demorilises the price when you come to sell it. I'd rather buy a decent car, that will get me from a to b, and the money that i would spend to modify it; i'd burn it. That Focus that sacko posted, is the car that you would want to go for.
Decent car that Sacko! Not 100% on going for a private seller though, I've been advised by my parents to go through a garage. Is this wise advice or not? EDIT: Love that! Just stuck in the registration in CompareTheMarket and I'm getting quotes of a little over £1,000. Fantastic for me and means my car search is promising! Though a much more powerful engine than my current 1.1, I'd like something with a bit acceleration too to be honest. Can't have everything I suppose...
It is if the garage is going to give you a bit of warranty and accept your part-ex, otherwise you may as well buy private.
Remember though, you buy private and the car's engine blows up the next day, there's nothing you can do. Buyer beware.
Yeah so I've noticed. That looks the best in value so far though! If I'm getting quotes for £1000 for a 1.8L then I think I'll carry on looking for cars around that engine size. It's only 10 miles away from my house too when I stuck my post code in.
The simple fact is you really can't go far wrong with a Focus, even if it breaks you'll be able to afford to get it fixed.
Been told by a friend of mine, a mechanic who's currently fitting my new gearbox, that I should be looking for a 1.6 Focus rather than a 1.8 because they're a little more reliable. Any truth in that? He suggested having a look at Toyota's also.
the 1600 is a petrol iirc, will have a very lively engine, but the power sits higher in the revs, meaning you've to burn more petrol to get it, the 1800 is a diesel, plenty of torque in the lower rev range, and probably going to be cheaper to run (if not to buy). Horses for courses...
Honda Civic Sport 1.6L Vtec facelift version. Insurance shouldnt be too high due to it being a 1.6. Honda engines are brilliant and the car itself looks good with factory side skirts, front bumper, rear bumper, twin exhaust. All you need are some alloys and a new spoiler and your good to go.
Trying to find a Honda Civic Sport under £2000 is difficult though! I don't have loads of money to play with
