I predict if he gets on board with Brexit he will win the next election. I like his stance on Coronavirus supportive but critical if required. Like a breath of fresh air compared to Corbyn.
From the stuff I've seen from his two PMQ's so far I like him. Asks intelligent questions and seems 2 or 3 steps ahead of the person he's asking them to, which you'd probably expect from a QC. Brexit will likely be long behind us by the time he is actually up for election.
I don’t think he even needs to get fully on board with Brexit; just a simple “it’s what people voted for, let’s try and make it work” stance. However I’m sure the usual suspects will be along shortly to remind us all he’s a Londoncentric traitor to his country.
Corbyn was always trying to land 1 punch knockouts where as Starmer seems more patient and considered. Raab was out of his depth and looked terrified, Bojo will need to remain calm and not do all the um, err, um, um's that he does or he will just look like a total pillock.
Preferred Corbin. Not a fan of Starmer 1 bit due a number of reasons. I have probably voted labour the most at GEs, but I won’t vote for him at the next one (just like I wouldn’t vote for milliband). He probably will do well though. Labour do when they try to be the Tory lite party
I could vote for Starmer no problem its how he deals with people like Lammy that will make my mind up. I expect people like KK will say he is to middle and not enough left wing. This may break up Labour 1980s style and let Boris back in.
That doesn’t surprise me tbh mate. he seems like Blair, quite central. I personally liked and supported Blair, and did well for myself during his tenure. A left wing labour party will not win an election in the foreseeable.
I don’t trust him or particularly like him I also think we need a prominent left wing party in Britain. We only seem to have right and centrist parties at the moment
Brexit is going to drag on for the next 10 years at least. I doubt Labour will ever come close to winning an election under the current voting system. Now that the SNP seem to have a stronghold on Scotland, the best Labour will ever come close to is a hung parliament and a coalition. Which, I actually think is the best form of government, having one party have complete control and not have to work with other people, seems to belong in the 20th century. Will take a while, but once Labour come round to the idea that we need to get rid of first past the post system, maybe we will finally get rid of the Tories.
I understand this point but forgive me, it looks like you liked Blair for the same reasons you dont like Starmer? If Starmer gets anti-semitism out of the party in the way it is now he has my vote easily. I think he’s excellent.
Ill wait to see policies and how he wants to take Labour forward but he is a refreshing change from JC. I get where Ninja is coming from as well in that people fell for Blair and yet look at his legacy so anyone especially leading Labour who is similar in style and approach will evoke suspicion.
Starmer will look to take the party in the same direction. And I’ve no real issue with that because I’d much rather Tory lite in power than the actual Tory party. The difference is I liked and trusted Blair. I can’t say the same for Starmer, so I’ll end up voting greens more than likely
I love how so many people believe the myth that he's a centrist, must be because he's not too scruffy. He's a left winger but if it helps get him more votes then so be it. He supported their manifesto and just feels their was too much in there last time but it'd be along the same lines and doesn't want Labour to over pivot to the center. I disagree. I think as a country the majority is Center-Left which shows in the elections, if you take the 6 parties with the most votes this is how it looks. 2019 Right leaning - Brexit Party, Conservatives - 14.6m Left leaning - Labour, Green, SNP, Lib Dems - 16m 2017 Right leaning - Conservatives, UKIP - 14.2m Left leaning - Labour, Green, SNP, Lib Dems - 16.75m The problem is competition and our voting system. We don't have enough competition on the right, which will be worse when the Brexit Party dies off and we have too much competition on the left. Then first past the post doesn't represent the country overall. We should use Single Transferable Vote.
He still wants to stay in The EU that will go tits up when we finally get over the Coronavirus as Italy will be next to leave. Political point scoring by Starmer will not go down well with an electorate that recently battered The Labour Party with their worst defeat since the 1930's
He's stronger than Corbyn that's for sure, and in an advisarial parlimentary system you need strong opposition for it to work properly.
