...find me a car. Getting bored as hell looking for one. Thinking of getting a Diesel Seat Ibiza but the relatively low mileage ones are too expensive. Im willing to spend up to £5,000 on a 2/3 door car with no more than 40,000 miles on it. I'll sit here while you scout the Internet and find me one. So run along children and find me something nice. Thanks...
Do you know of any car auctions in Hull near you? I'd go to one of them you could probably get a Seat Ibiza then probably with alot less mileage and for similiar price.
No idea about car auctions, but I wanna buy from a dealer anyways cos I need to get finance and I want to trade in my crappy Corsa Van which has a slight (major) problem with it...
You get what you pay for Andy, I'd stay well clear of auctions if i was you matey. Sakho, How do the prices of Seat's compare to VW's? That would be the first thing id check as they are basiclly made up from VW parts even the engine's, Insurance is identical for similiar models too. Do you like VW's?
Well how much you got to spend if you dont mind me asking? Does it have to be Diesel? Any certain age? Hatchback? I'll find you a decent motor at a good budget.
I would prefebly like a Seat Ibiza, but im willing to look at others cos im sick to death of finding an Ibiza in my budget... Budget: 5k Fuel: Diesel 3 door hatchback Mileage around 40,000 MUST not be a private selling, has to be trade so I can use muy car as part of the deal. Thank you very much, very kind of you.
Fair point, but it's also true that a large number of cars bought from dealers have been bought by them at auction, valeted and stuck on the forecourt with a £1,000 mark up.
Sacko, Ford Focus diesel...What do you think to them? Do you like the look of them? If so these come well within your budget, Would be just as cheap to insure as a Seat with a similiar spec. An excellent all rounder with excellent professional reviews, Thoughts?
I just had a look on www.autotrader.co.uk , Plenty of them on there just narrow your search down to what you want, Great thing is there is plenty of them to choose from whether you want to buy one from autotrader or not, Just autotrader give's you an idea what you can get them for. Also www.confused.com gave my brother decent insurance for his one, He is 23 and its his 1st year in driving with no, no claims obviously and he pays £1000 a year for the 2.0 petrol which would cost more to insure than the diesel.
There are some great deals around on the Focus, THIS ONE FOR EXAMPLE is a 1.6 Zetec, with anti-locking brake system, air conditioning, all round airbags, alloy wheels, CD player, electric front windows, power assisted steering, remote central locking, it's an 05 plate with 32,000 miles on the clock and it's £4,999.
Are auctions dodgy then? Me and my Dad went to one in Rothwell , Leeds on monday and was looking at a 08 MX5 with 11,000 miles for only £8,250!! There were plenty of dealers there aswell buying cars everyone seemed to know each other there was even banter between the auctioneer and the dealers!(shows how often they must go)
It depends i suppose on the history of the car, If it's a stolen and recovered then no doubt the people who have nicked it have gave it a good thrashing etc. Then you have repossed cars that have been taken from someone who cannot afford to pay a debt, If they cannot afford to pay a debt would've they have been able to look after the car properly throughout the time they have had it? who knows....But thats the risk you have to take buying from a car auction, Hence why they are cheaper. Car dealers do go to auctions i agree, Buying a car from a reputable garage like a proper Ford dealership you have alot less of a chance buying something dodgy, Its just buying safer and taking less risks.
Well there is an old banger side and another side of the auction that sells decent cars that are 3 years old at most. My dad works with a Vauxhall qualified mechanic so hopefully he can advise us on which car to get. Probably best to go with a mechanic.
Right, I've decided to go for broke and purchase a Diesel Ford Focus. It may take a few weeks but I'm up to the task. Wish me luck...
Apart from main dealers, 90% of the cars on garage forecourts are bought at auction. We somehow get a feeling of security if we buy from a dealer, but in fact we're just paying someone else's wages. You get plenty of time to look at the cars at an auction before they come into the bidding area, but if you think about it it's pretty straight forward assessing a car. Look for a service history, look at the bodywork and the interior, check the wear on the steering wheel, the seats, the handbrake and the pedals and see if they look right regarding the mileage on the odometer.
Nothing wrong with auctions if you have someone with you who knows what to look for/talking about. As people have said in this thread garages buy them and sell them on for a profit. 2 of my mates make a living out of buying cars at auction, cleaning them up etc and then selling them in the autotrader at a profit. Just be wary of release fees when buying them from auction.
Are you serious?! You spent two days researching and buying a car worth 5 grand With a little more time and effort, you could easiily get something a hell of a lot better than an old? Focus diesel I feel sorry for you
