Opening day fixtures. Celtic v Hearts Motherwell v Rangers Aberdeen V Hamilton Dundee v Ross County Kilmarnock v St Johnstone Hibs v Patrick Thistle Can't wait to get started and carry on the invincible domestic dominance, Hearts is usually a tough game but if they are anything like they were in the s3cond half of last season it's an easy three points for us. My Predictions- Champions - Celtic Scottish Cup - Celtic League Cup - Hibs Europa League places - Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs Top Goalscorer - Dembele
A very early prediction. 1. Celtic 2. Aberdeen 3. Rangers 4. Hibs 5. Hearts 6. St. Johnstone - - - - - - - 7. Kilmarnock 8. Partick Thistle 9. Motherwell 10. Ross County - - - - - - - 11. Dundee - - - - - - - 12. Hamilton
I would have had Aberdeen finishing second if they hadent lost any players but they really need to get signings right. Not having McGinn and Hayes on either flank will really hurt them. I don't rate Pedro either but if his signings work out he should be able to pip Aberdeen to second. Big season for Hearts and Hibs also, Catbro needs to get it right and quickly or he will be out the door before we hit double figure in games. Hibs have a solid enough team but need a goalscorer to push them ahead of the likes of St Johnstone. For once I won't be tipping Killie to go down as I seen enough from McCullouch to think he might actually be a good manager for them. I can't see past Hamilton getting relegated.
1. Celtic 2. Aberdeen 3. Rangers 4. St. Johnstone 5. Hearts 6. Partick Thistle (if Archibald stays) ------------------------------------------------- 7. Ross County 8. Motherwell 9. Hibs 10. Kilmarnock 11. Dundee -------------------------------------------------- 12. Hamilton
Outside of the Premiership, Dundee Utd away to Inverness on opening day, Raith start away to Alloa, hardest fixture they could have but at least it gets it out of the way early.
I'll just leave this here. In the words of a fraudulent fantasist. . .. .Ladies and gentlemen I give you Dave King “In footballing terms I don’t think Celtic are as far ahead as they could have been – certainly with our new signings.”
If he'd said that when Ronny was in charge and they'd done this, fair enough. But the current Celtic team? What is he smoking. Rangers are still (until proven) the third best team in Scotland.
We should be winning the title again but I never take anything for granted. I would like to see us bring in three (at least) quality additions who have a bit more in terms of physique as I think we may need this in the coming season.
I think if they bring in Walker and Dorrans then they will defo be stronger than Aberdeen who need to bring in 3/4 first team players and then we can judge them, the likes of Maloney and Stevie May will send them in the right direction but they will still need a new CB and another winger too keep them ahead of Rangers. I don't rate Cathro from what I have seen and Hearts have a hard start to the season with 5 possible away games so I think they will struggle.
Cathro will be lucky to last past September, Hearts will then improve enough for a top six spot. Reckon Hibs could finish 4th.
Rodgers saying we will be trying to bring one more in before the qualifiers then he'll be waiting until nearer the end of it to see what quality becomes available in the English market.
One more? We haven't brought anyone in yet unless I've missed it bar a SPL squad player. I said a few weeks ago that this is a big window for us in terms of what direction we want to go in. Imo the vast majority of fans will be livid if we don't bring in some good players who will improve our first team. They will blame the board again and if we don't give BR some decent money then we run the risk of pissing him off. I know he loves it here but we must back him. I also really hope that we're not waiting to see what becomes available in the English market.
Agree with most of this. There hasn't been this much collective goodwill from the fans towards the club for a while and I think the majority are on the same wavelength in terms of this period being pivotal in regard to the direction we are going in. We need to strike while the iron is hot or we run the risk of seeing it all go tits up. We are in a strong position, but can really turn the screw here and up the ante even more. There are confident noises coming from across the city yet again (justified? Time will tell) and there is the progression in the CL target to maintain. We can build on before and conquer these challenges if we make the right moves. Brendan knows the English market well and if he can bring in a few more like Sinclair then I'm all for it, but we all know how inflated it is down there. Hopefully, Congerton can spot one or two gems elsewhere which won't see us shelling out more than we really need to. Let's hope Brendan gets the support he deserves to take us up a level or two.
It's the usual stuff from fans at this time of year mate. Rodgers will be backed but he's proven before that he'll wait for the right player rather than sign someone for the sake of signing him or to keep some fans happy. I'm very comfortable that we're in a good place right now and can afford to be very precise about what player or players we want to sign.
This is the bit I'm concerned about. We have been is similar positions before and have blown it big time under Lawwell. To the extent that he even admitted it. However.... As above but my gut instinct is that we will this time back him. I hope I am not wrong but it's understandable why fans are curious given our past record.
The uncertainty over playing in Europe or not will have a factor in signing players to take us to the next level. We need a CB, RW and RB imo to take us up a notch.
