I agree with more or less all of what rednwhitebertie said. Warnock would be better if he came out and admitted he had made a mistake he would be a better man in my eyes, but he seems to think he is better than what he is, he's a motivator but he is not a tactician. I thank him for what he has done for this football club, he has created financial stability and he has made us into a team that should be able to get out of this league once again next year. What we need now is a new manager who will use the players we have in the correct way (both home and away) and take the club forward. I honestly believe that with a bit more attacking minded play away from home this season we would have stayed up, but I suppose we will never know. Thankyou Mr. Warnock, you can be a bit of an idiot at times, but we wouldn't be where we are today without you.
So that's it then is it, it's entirely Warnock's fault that we got relegated because we didn't have a very good away record. No mention of inexplicable catastrophic individual errors by players in home games that turned victories into draws & draws into defeats. No mention of Webber missing a sitter against Wigan. No mention of two missed penalties in one game. Oh no, there's no mention of these because it would deflect attention away from the warnock bashing.
We all know it's not ENTIRELY Warnock's fault, I have mentioned in other threads that silly mistakes in some games at home have cost us. I am stating that it is one of the many reasons why we have gone down. He won't admit the fact that he has been wrong on a few occassions this year, but he has said the players have made mistakes, and I'm saying he should hold his hands up and say that he has made a few errors of judgement himself over the course of the season.
How many people hold there hands up and say 'im sorry, it was my fault' though? It never happens. If Webber had scored on sunday, we wouldnt have even been talking about this. Where did you all honestly expect us to finish this season?
Before the season started I thought we would end up in the bottom 3, no two ways about it. Even when we were 10 points clear I said I wouldn't be surprised if we went down, but honestly a team should not be relegated when they are 10 points clear of the relegation zone with around 8 or 9 games left.
The 10 points clear thing was always going to happen, following that our next 3 games were Chelsea, Man Utd and Bolton, doesnt matter what formation you play, we were never going to get anything form those games, and thats yoyr 10 points gone.
I am honestly sad to see you go from the Premiership, I really wanted us both to stay up and i think so did most fans. Warnock has been quality, lacks a bit of tactical knowledge but i like him for his attitude and how down to earth he is. Says it how it is. Maybe we should have been thinking the same about Jewell through losing 26 points from winning positions but most of the blame has to go on the pitch and walk the walk. At the end of the day its the players who play the game, it's only the team selection and tactics which the manager has an influence on. I would happily take Warnock from you and hope you gain promotion next season.
For the record, West Ham beat Bolton and Man Utd, so it was possible. I guess that "can't win" attitude is why you went down huh?
That is incorrect mate. You never played those three teams in a row. And I hate to say it but perhaps Star Striker is right in some way; that defeatist and negative attitude contributed to your downfall. This is a point that has been raised by your own fans in this very forum with regards to your 4-5-1 formation away from home. Following your 3-0 victory over us - which let's face it, we all thought meant you were up and we were down - you had Man Utd, Charlton, Watford, Aston Villa and Wigan. Ultimately, the fact that you collected just 4 points from not the most difficult set of games, was why you went down?
We played 4 of the the top 5 away from home in a row, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bolton, and Manchester United.
Oh man, how times change. Warnock's class, and you know it. So is Jags. Too bad they're gone (or, almost). Gonna be tough. Warnock should go to Man City!
Warnock is ok but he,s been here a while now and it,s time for a change. He couldn,t seem to motivate the players anymore and that, coupled with his tactics of late, made it clear he had to go. Credit to him for realising it himself.
I'm glad to see I started a healthy debate following my saga of a post, having trawled through the replies I see just about everyones point of view. Escafeld are you related to Neil? I only ask because whenever anyone dared to have a negative opinion you leap to his defence. We note that once on the pitch players take responsibility for the actions and they threw a number of points away during the season. The charlton away game eptimoised Neil this season a game with a more positivity attitude and desire to win the game we would have won that game giving us more points and better goal difference. Once we went one down it was as though someone let the players loose of shackles they had to get the draw which Neil thought was adequate at the time, we should have gone for the jugular and showed no mercy that day and we would have beat a poor jittery Charlton by at least 2 goals. That said he has now gone and we look to the future (unless we get re-instated and according to the mirror he'll be back on the phone to McCabe, please no). I'm not sure who we should be looking at to take us forward but I know some guys I dont want who I've heard banded about Micky Adams (not a progressive appointment and doesnt have a good recent managerial record), Ian Dowie (made a mess a Charlton and loyalty is a question), Bryan Robson (No thanks nuff said). I hope our board being Blades themselves make an appointment not only based on getting us out of the championship but pushing on in the premiership
