Early days yet, but given the amount of journalists parroting the same targets, it's looking like our team could look something like: Karius Clyne Lovren Matip Chilwell Dahoud Can Mane Firmino Coutinho Sturridge Mignolet, Sakho, Moreno, Henderson, Grujic, Allen, Lucas, Milner, Origi, Ings and Benteke all adding strength in depth too. Good enough to challenge for CL places?
It's a decent team but there are too many inconsistent players in that Liverpool squad and if that is something like your squad next season, then I think you will yet again miss out on the top 4 places.
I tend to agree. Karius, Chilwell, Dahoud and Grujic are unknown quantities really. To get top four or beyond we'll need them to produce the goods and Firmino, Coutinho, etc. to be much more consistent.
I think it's most important that we eradicate our weaknesses as best we can & I see Klopp doing that; GK, left back, aerial ability on set pieces, better passers, more pace up front, & more players who press & suit his style. Dahoud would be quality but I don't see us getting him, more likely Zielinksi. I'm not too worried about what we look like on paper Klopp will have them performing right at the top of their levels. We won't do all our business in the 1st 5 minutes of the window either, there's a few surprises in store yet. Brand new names popping up all the time.
That team should be getting top 4 imo with the amount of managerial changes at the top and the fact we don't have Europe.
We haven't been discouraged from making an offer, let's say. May very well not happen (I still think it'll end up going south and the Pole will be a red), but we've a better chance than I'd have guessed.
I read something from a while back with them saying he wasn't for sale publicly. Added to that, reports coming out of Italy are that Klopp has went back in for Zielinski who would clearly sign if we pulled the trigger on it. Borussia Monchengladbach Sporting Director Max Eberl has been quoted saying “Dahoud is not for sale. We are a hungry club and we need every good player.” As James Pearce reported, this would be a difficult deal to pull off, however if Liverpool conjure up more than £25mil, the German side might have to reconsider their hard-nosed position.
There's a few folk on the LFC forums think Sturridge won't be 1st choice striker, and not because many think we'll sign someone else. One guy was almost ridiculing people for thinking Sturridge would be 1st choice as he (apparently if you watch games according to him anyway) doesn't fit in with Klopp's system despite starting 7 of the 9 league games he played upon his return. Doesn't seem to be that school of 'thought' on here, I'd be worried if we don't start our best goalscorer UNLESS we sign another striker and they're better of course...... I'd be surprised if all those on the "squad/bench" options list are still here in the summer, although I'm not convinced Klopp will clear out as many as are listed as "get rid"s on the LFC forums (soooo many)
Origi got injured, the starting 9 is definitely up for grabs between those 2. Even Ings as he was never in the battle. I think Mane will play wide.
I'm not so sure Firmino/Coutinho are as nailed on as everyone thinks. I'm expecting all our AMs to see quite a lot of action despite the fewer games.
If he can get back some of the promise he had before here he could become a very useful player for us. Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Lallana, Markovic, Ojo/Ibe & Milner (and maybe even Ings, Origi & Luis Alberto ) all competing for the slots behind the striker, that's not a bad group at all.
Will Matip go straight in at Sakho's expense - I thought Sakho looked good for you guys whenever I saw him following Klopps arrival? As someone already said, there's alot of inconsistency but Klopp doesn't suffer fools and is one of the best for getting the most out of his players. It's impossible to predict the top 4, I honestly think any of United, City, Liverpool, Spurs or Leceister could either win the league or finish 5th - it's going to be very open.
