He jumped out of the car after the blast went off. If you watch the video, at 0:11 you can see the driver side door open when the vehicle is stopped, and he got out and ran to the other side of the monument. He was a very lucky man, and very brave, and hope that he can make a full recovery. This situation could have been a lot worse, had it not been for his quick reactions and thinking.
@The Doc @Frosty The video I'd seen was way way worse quality than that one, yeah you can clearly see he gets out after the blast.
The driver takes the brunt of the blast from his front seat before exiting the taxi. It's not clear whether the bomb detonated on a timer or the driver intended to sacrifice himself in order to stop the passenger getting out and entering the hospital. It's a miracle he survived the blast and if not for his selfless actions the outcome could have been horrendous ,that for me defines the term hero.
Yeah just seen the video and he clearly jumped out after the explosion. In truth if these stories are his own account of the thing maybe he's understandably a bit mixed up? Everything happened within seconds and he had a bomb blow up in his taxi so maybe his recollection is a bit ****ed up right now?
I just thank God he never arrived at his original destination via 'Shanks's Pony' and just walked into the congregation or the crowds gathered outside.
Did the taxi have child locks in the back that could be operated by the driver? The story doesn't add up with the video.
Absolutely, I don't see anything particularly 'heroic' in the video, the poor driver didn't know anything about it until the bomb went off and he braked a millisecond afterwards. I'm just thankful the driver seems to have escaped serious injury somehow, whether or not he managed to lock the doors is moot, the bomb exploded as the car arrived. The bomber only claimed one life, his own, so no real loss there, and thankfully there were no innocent bystanders caught in harms way.
Unconfirmed reports of another explosion in Sefton Park, which isnt too far away from yesterdays UPDATE Apparently it was a controlled explosion Controlled explosion in Sefton Park as terror probe continues
Liverpool explosion: UK terror threat level raised to 'severe' following hospital blast - attack now 'highly likely' Hopefully not
From what I read, the driver felt vibrating in the car and saw the lights under his jacket, which is why he locked the doors so that he couldn't get out of the car. Sent from my SM-G998B using Tapatalk
The four arrested have now been released...they may well be completely innocent and the bomber may have been acting alone, but I think they need to come out and say that asap or there are going to be a lot of very scared and nervous people in Liverpool. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
Taxi's have locks that can be engaged to prevent people from running without paying. I think I agree with @StretfordEnd though, I'm not sure he knew anything about it. If he did surely he wouldn't have driven into the grounds of a hospital?
The taxi driver is so lucky to even be alive tbh, hopefully he makes full recovery , heard he was already home so good signs.
Hopefully the driver makes a full recovery. I don't know if the car seat took most of the impact that went his way, but I was shocked when I read he was home already, after watching the video.
The BBC are reporting that 32 year old Asylum seeker Emad Al Swealmeen had converted to Christianity in 2017 . Did the 4 who were released give these details or have whoever's fact compiling come up with this & why does it take 4 years to say " you can stay " or " p*ss off " maybe if returned as a Christian to his original homeland he would be persecuted so instead blow yourself up in a taxi in front of a hospital , lose , lose scenarios for all !
