He's had another good year. Every 'keeper makes mistakes, and last night's looked dreadful. He saves us more points than he loses, and that's what matters to me. I'm happy for him to sign up as spending may be tight and other areas need heavy investment first. I don't see de Gea as a problem; he's perfectly fine. I think the vitriol he gets from some United fans to be a bit sad.
First 6 Months at United, I questioned whether he'd be the Keeper. At that time, it was a big fat no. Then he turned it around. Then that 18 Month spell recently, again it reminds you of when he first joined. At that point I thought Henderson should have been playing but let's face it, the Manager didn't have a clue. Then he turns it around big time and whilst not the same level of the 4 or 5 years where he was arguably the best Keeper in the World, he's bailed out United more than most. When someone has a vendetta, they never see past that. Ten stated he wants a new keeper so I'll be very surprised if DeGea's contract gets renewed.
Except he doesn't save us more points than he loses, in the past 5 years he's only had one season where his PSxG (post shot expected goals, basically a measure of a keepers shot stopping quality) has been positive and that was last season. This season he's statistically having his worse ever season with a per 90 PSxG of -0.12. He's awful and easily the biggest hole in the team right now.
Having seen the antics of the lemon they have between the sticks at Anfield maybe de Gea isn't so bad after all . . .
David de Gea among Premier League goalkeepers this season: -2.2 PSxG+/-: 19th 28.8% Launched Pass Completion: 19th 2.7% of Crosses Stopped: 21st 16 Sweeping Actions: 17th https://fbref.com/en/players/7ba6d84e/David-de-Gea Guy is dogshit and needs to **** off.
The only keeper I can think of off the top of my head who's significantly worse than De Gea is Meslier.
I've been calling for anybody but Dave all season, easily the worst keeper I've ever watched Thankfully that contract still isn't signed
Rumours that the reason de Gea hasn't snatched the club's hand off when offered a new deal is that he may get an offer from Saudi. Someone pointed out/reminded me that the last trophy we won before this season's League Cup was the 2017 Europa League, and de Gea didn't play in goal for that competition.
