A quote of my own is that those who think that a quote/opinion from a former player validates everything and can be used as proof, generally knows nothing about football.

Messi is underwhelming at international level and is a system dependant goalscorer

    He's Argentina's leading goal scorer.
He's won the most player of the tournament in history.
He's won player of the tournament in every international competition he's been in.
He has the most goal involvements in history at international level.

    That's underwhelming?

The two middle points aren't relevant to his goalscoring and the bottom point is helped by the fact Argentina have the luxury to play against mighty heavyweights such as Panama and Bolivia in tournaments.

As opposed to the mighty Finland and North Macedonia.

Argentina just ran circles around the Euro champions so not sure if you want to keep digging the hole you're in.

Finland and North Macedonia aren't even euro regulars for a start and I can't believe you are trying to put the tinpot Copa America on the same level as the European championships

Also yes Argentina won against Italy however it was a friendly match and Italy haven't even qualified for the world cup

    What next?
    Messi is the international gOaT?

    Hope this helps

Voted Pele just so he has more votes than Maradona :D but gotta go with Messi on this one. He has a bit of everything the other giants have (Pele's efficiency, Maradona's technique, Cristiano's longevity and consistency).

Apparently, according to most who saw this footballer, José Manuel Moreno was the best Argentinan footballer ever, and that included Di Stefano, Maradona, and the odd one that saw Messi.
Not sure how believable that is tbh

https://youtube.com/shorts/kmaEEBnID6A?feature=share. Just a bit of what Maradona had to deal with in la liga. I think it's why he struggled at barca. La liga was supposedly one of the dirtiest leagues ever at this time. Obviously a big agenda to take him out in games. Was it ever this bad towards a player in England?
