I mean they have lost one game like Liverpool. Hardly imploded yet - maybe if they went on a bad run like last season then true.
I was more asking due to not really progressing from last season if they fail to win the title again. Also the lack of silverware.
I would argue attaining a similar amount of points with the tougher schedule of matches that comes with a CL campaign is progress, albeit small progress. I don’t want to make this comparison but it would be like asking if Klopp should have been sacked at the end of the 17/18 season. After all, Liverpool finished 4th and won nothing again that season
I guess yeah that's a fair point. Still think you'll probably get through the tie in the week too then who knows.
I don't even think he should be sacked/replaced I just wonder when the "process" stops and the silverware begins?
Not at all, he's clearly got them challenging for stuff and much like Klopp, he's competing with a Man City who are not only one of the best teams the league ever seen, but also cheating bastards Think Arteta has done a good job in tuth. Theres no shame in being 2nd/3rd best team in this league behind the behemoth that is the current Man City. After all, thats all we have been under Klopp.
Oh I think we’re already past the ‘process’ phase. I’m of the opinion that breaking the top 4 is the proof of concept and completion of the process. Then you consolidate in year two, then you have the platform to challenge year on year. The world doesn’t suddenly end (despite the best efforts of Middle Eastern countries ) in May. I want a squad that can stay in the equation for multiple seasons, not just one. You can see that’s the aim with how we’ve built our squad.
Silverware aside, keeping up with City/Pep in a title race is massive progress. 2 years running. You could make a case that they haven't improved vs last season, but their competitiveness is looking sustainable. Even with weird signings like Havertz. I think with Klopp gone, and Pep looking likely to follow in a year or two, Arsenal would be mad to get rid of Arteta when the club is in a healthy place to take advantage of the league when both Klopp/Pep are gone.
Worded much better than I did, proving that our competitiveness is sustainable was what this season was about for me.
