    I stayed for the fans

    Sergio Torres
SERGIO Torres says his love affair with Wanderers fans was a major factor behind his decision to sign a new two-year deal at Adams Park.

Championship outfit Southampton and League One giants Nottingham Forest were both rumoured to be interested in the Argentinian but he has decided to stay put.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper on the pitch before Saturday's 2-0 win over Darlington.

He said: "I'm very happy. It's what I've been waiting for. I'm very happy here and I didn't see any reason why I should go.

"I heard rumours about other clubs but if they like me they will maybe come back in the future. Like everyone else I would like to play higher but I think I can go higher with Wycombe."

And he added: "I like it here, the supporters were a big thing in my decision to stay because they have really liked me since the first day I came here, staying for two more years is a way to pay them back for all the support they've given me."

Torres, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, has enjoyed his best season since being plucked from non-league Basingstoke four years ago and he says he is only going to keep improving under the coaching staff at Adams Park.

He said: "I think I am getting better every year and it is helping me a lot playing with experienced players like Gary Holt, Neil Lennon, Scott McGleish who keep talking to me and have improved my game a lot.

"My decision-making has improved a lot, I'm still not a great defender when it comes to tackling but at least I try."

Boss Paul Lambert said: "It's terrific that he's signed. He's a big player for us."

Considering Bloomy didn't even play in the last game, how would he replace him?

Sergio hasn't trained all week. Very unlikely he'll be involved this week or next i would of thought.

Sergio apparantly wants to be back for next weeks game, so my mate who works at the club says. Time will tell, would rather have him fit and ready for the upcoming matches at the end of the month.

Shrews07 asked me to post this:

SERGE - EXPERIENCE COULD BE KEY

Ahead of the Blues' play-off semi-final with Stockport on Sunday, Sergio Torres has told wwfc.com that the experience in the Wanderers squad could prove vital in achieving a place at Wembley:
"The balance in the team is great," he said. "If we play like we know we can, we can beat anyone on our day. We played excellently against MK Dons and Peterborough, the best two teams in the league, and we should have beaten them both."

There is a real buzz around Adams Park ahead of the clash with the Hatters on Sunday evening, and having missed out on the 2005/06 play-offs against Cheltenham the Argentine winger is chomping at the bit at the prospect of three more games and a potential trip to North London to play under the arch.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to it. I was really disappointed to miss out last time but I'm ready for it this year.

"It's only a couple of days away now and there is a great mood around the place."

Sergio played on the opposite wing to Matty Phillips on Saturday in the 2-1 win over Bradford City and the winger was very impressed with the 17-year-old after he made his first senior start for the club.

Wanderers' no. 22 said: "He was great on Saturday. He took people on, he ran with the ball and he made things happen. It was a fantastic debut from him."

Stockport boss Jim Gannon has recently said that his side will be more sprightly when the two teams meet over the coming weeks, and despite the Hatters having a younger side Torres believes the older heads in the Wanderers squad could give Wycombe the upper hand.

Torres said: "We have got a very good team and we have a great mix between youth and experience.

"However, I think the experience from the likes of Holty (Gary Holt), Doc (Tommy Doherty) and Scott McGleish could prove to be crucial in the end."
