Disappointing again. Lost 1-0 to Switzerland and didn’t have a shot on effort despite some very good attacking talent on the pitch. Won just 3 out of 18 games at these Championships!
I’d love to know the FAs thinking behind leaving this promising group of young English talent to be managed by Aidy Boothroyd Either give it to a progressive young coach or a more experienced head who’s got loads of successful experience working with youngsters
Didn't like the team tbh he set up too conservative don't think you needed Davies and Skipp I also find McNeil pretty uninspiring when you have better players on the bench. Even when he got subs on though we didn't look great Boothroyd is pretty meh as a coach I think shame as we have a great squad.
I suppose Steve Copper would have been ideal in terms of the latter. Boothroyd doesn't strike me as the sort of manager to implement the style Southgate and FA want to bring to the youngsters. Given his one success with us 14 years ago relied basically on getting the ball to Ashley Young for a cross to Marlon King or a big quick long ball up to the strikers. And certainly when they left he didn't seem to have a plan B and we went to pot. A great season with the promotion of course but our guys weren't the next generation of England players apart from Young of course.
Southgate & Boothroyd are both totally unqualified for their jobs and both play dour, negative football. We are sleep walking into wasting so much talent. Problem is, the people employing them are even more incompetent.
You do have to laugh. Spend all that money on grassroots, youth coaching and building a training base for the whole operation and then give the top coaching jobs to two unqualified coaches.
After Gareth inevitably fails this tournament the FA should go all out to get Bielsa in, let him pick his own coaches throughout the system. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
I forgave Southgate for his terrible management costing us the semi final, because we emerged from that tournament playing 4-3-3. We looked excellent, battered Spain in their own backyard and got to the nations league finals. An exciting young squad playing exciting football. So obviously he decided to start playing 5 at the back even though all our best players are attackers...leading to thrillers such a 0-0 vs Denmark with Phillips & Rice in midfield.
Nice 1-0 win for our u21s to start off the tournament. Quite unusually we had 4x ‘Diogo’s’ within our defence and keeper. Diogo Costa, Diogo Leite, Diogo Dalot and Diogo Queiros
Offer it to Mourinho, least have a laugh with it. England managers are all such dull people, generally. Southgate and McClaren especially.
Of course they let a World Cup winning manager go to Swansea rather than try to keep him and maybe promote him. Or maybe it’s just the way football is now. Club comes over country even for managers.
Germany take on the Netherlands in an hour. This German U21 side are possibly the most unknown in decades, but at least they beat Hungary 3:0 in the first game.
