Players make mistakes. The second goal was a catalogue of errors that started from Gerrard carelessly giving the ball away. I said you can forgive that, but what you can't forgive is a poor attitude and players giving up. The onus does fall on Gerrard to an extent as captain to lift the team on the pitch - not drop his shoulders and give up the ghost. If he can't show any leadership on the pitch then give someone else the armband.

I'd like to see him close to the goal and well away from our own half of the field. He offers nothing in midfield.

2/3 seasons ago he scored 24 goals was our best player along with torres by miles and was the driving force either setting up torres or banging goals in himself , but hey just disregard all that it doesnt suit your agenda

 What is it with you guys accusing each other of having 'agendas' all the time? This thread must've seen about 3 or 4 different instances of someone accusing another fan of having a 'hidden agenda'. :shrug

    What is this?

In 08/09 when he played off Torres and they formed a great partnership. But we've had three full seasons since then when he's done next to nothing. I'm sick of the excuses - it's time he produced now if he's still in the team.

whether the manager plays him to his strenths with players good enough to compete is the real question , If Gerrard had played for Barcelona for the last 7 years we would all be talking about him in the same breadth as Zidane , unfortunately for gerrard he has had to endure the worst spell in the history of Liverpool FC

He had a manager who played to his strengths in Rafa, and had players around him good enough, but he was happy to see him replaced with Hodgson, so he loses my sympathy for that.

If Gerrard has lost that yard of pace, and long-range shooting ability then his quality is mainly his crossing and finishing in the box. He'll offer little in midfield no matter who he's paired with.

I wouldnt have been happy with some of the bizaare desicions Rafa made but Gerrard wasnt happy to see Rafa replaced , Alonso leaving was a big loss which lies at the feet of Rafa , the endless list of makeshift players bought for peanuts to come in and play with one of the best players on the planet season after season would wear anyones resolve nevermind someone of Gerrards abillity ,

No it doesn't. Alonso wanted to go back to Spain and take a one-off chance to go to Real Madrid whilst they spent £200m that summer. If Rafa and Alonso were best mates he'd still have wanted to go. A year earlier Alonso was eyeing up a move to Arsenal.

It lies at the feet of Rafa that Alonso was here in the first place, giving us a better midfield for 5 years.

Oh please, ffs, I'm a massive Gerrard fan, always have been, he's been a tremendous player for us, but you're being absolutely ridiculous now comparing him to Zidane.

The lad has had massive spells of poor form for Liverpool over the past few seasons. Did you know we have a better win ratio over the past 3-4 years when Gerrard hasn't played? Last season, our form dropped out of the window the second Gerrard returned to the team and that's a fact. I don't want the lad replaced, far from it, on his day he's still a game changer, but the sad fact is, those days are few and far between these days and have been for a good three seasons now. But he needs a good kick up the arse, needs to stop becoming irreplaceable, he needs to be dropped when out of form, just like any other player is.

Gerrard is living off reputation these days. He has looked very ordinary for the past couple seasons, except when you play Everton or us and he has the chance to be a hero, so he decides to put in extra effort.

I wouldn't say that. He had the one really good performance in the derby last season, but it was against a much weakened Everton team who were there for the taking. Everton put out stronger reserve teams than that against us last season. Against United he's scored a couple of free kicks in recent games, but not really done anything from open play. The game at OT he was particularly poor last season and outplayed in midfield by the much older Giggs and Scholes - as was the rest of the midfield.

I worry about his legs because he's come off the bench a couple of times against Napoli and Newcastle and been outstanding for 20 minutes, but the only time he's had a really good 90 minutes for us since that 08/09 season was that derby last season - but Moyes did rest half his team.

    Agreed.

He's still a decent player, but we'll get the best out of him by using him efficiently and not burning him out.

What !!!!!! Gerrard along with Carragher where the ones who leaked to media that he had "lost the dressing room", they both were also behind the appointment of Woy.

As has been pointed out it would have created a right old storm if Rodgers had taken him off, Gerrard is far to powerful within the walls of Anfield & that is a worry.

Are you serious? Him and Carragher pretty much put the final nail in Rafa's Liverpool career.

We'll never know how true that really was, what we do know is Purslow was passing rubbish to the BBC sports writer (Winter??, can't think of him name....), and doing anything deliberately to undermine Rafa, it wasn't just Winters neither that getting note past....

I've never see any direct quotes from Either player, to indicate they wanted Rafa out, only rumours & Agenda's when their was internal battles under G&H.

Bascombe and Winter went to great lengths to get it out that Rafa had 'lost the senior players in the dressing room' and slaughtered him all the time in their papers. Bascombe and Winter wrote Gerrard and Carrahger's books and are friends of them, so that was logically an opinion endorsed by them. Not to mention Danny Murphy's interview with Bascombe saying the people he still keeps in contact with at LFC (there was only Gerrard and Carragher left from when he left and they're mates with him) think it's time Rafa left.

Then 6 months later when Rafa was sacked it was confirmed that Danny Murphy recommended Roy Hodgson to Gerrard and Carragher and to LFC.

If true, has Murphy apologised yet? :D Although plenty make more allowances for Woy, reckon we didn't, and blame us for his demise not him.
