Historically speaking over the last 4/5 seasons the teams dropping down from the Championship are in the mix the season after so despite the financial ramifications of at least 2 of the 3 expect all 3 to be in the top 8 . I imagine Reading like Derby this season , Sheff Weds & Sunderland last few will be a popular away day .
2 great away days with Blackpool and Wigan, Reading been 3 times and 1 i will not rush back to, unless it's a big game at the end of the season, one of the worst home atmosphere's i have ever experienced.
Hello 21 years away, but we're back home! Going to be a big rebuild job in the Summer, new manager, going to need half a new team. Atleast we might be out of transfer embargoes for the first time in 3.5 years. Not expecting much right now, but hopefully we can build a competitive team and actually see some wins next season. Know it'll be tough, bigger clubs have struggled in this league. Just hope to at least try to have some fun and enjoy the next step in our journey.
Wow, feeling pretty depressed right now, not gonna lie. No offence. Hello League One it's been a while. I was hoping that the only way we'd be leaving the Championship again would be going the other way back to the Premier League but unfortunately nope we are back here. Our club has been totally mismanaged for far too long with terrible ownership at board level who've been content with asset stripping. The 6 point deduction has finally done for us after a transfer embargo for the last 3 years + Although feelings are extremely raw right now hopefully we can rebuild the club top to bottom and get back to the values that made us a successful club, hopefully we'll be back sooner rather than later. I am looking forward to some new away days next season and visiting new places that we haven't been to for a very long time. I do remember us as a club in this division but they are hazy memories I have to say and a lot of the fanbase have never seen us play at this level. I don't know too much about League One nowadays but part of me is looking forward to a reset at the club. Here's to hopefully better times ahead and doing the double over those Poxford tw@ts up the road next season. Urzzzzz
It's better now as we no longer give the entire end to away fans. We have a new home section that takes up half that stand which allowed all the noisier fans (who spread out in the east stand) to get together in one group. And in fact next season plans are in place to move away fans to the Upper West corner, giving the whole end to home fans. Also allows us to charge you more for a ticket.
Just realised that I joined this forum when we were in League 1....god I feel old....hang on, I am old. Some of my best seasons watching Reading were in this division (barring the 106 point season and our first season in the Prem), and I;'ll also have an away game only 4 miles away from house......no not Wycombe as my username suggests, but the Completely-Suzuki Stadium.... Its going to be tough. We have no central midfield (all currently on loan), no wide players, and only one first team striker. We do have some decent defenders and keepers under contract. I am looking forward to Andy Carroll up against some League One defenders though. Should be some great aerial battles....
You've got me wondering where you live now (not in a creepy way, in a "I know the area" type way) - I've a feeling Churchdown is just a bit too far away (I grew up there). Tewkesbury - where I now live - is also just a bit too far as well.
As has already been touched on mate, it's improved a bit in fairness nowadays. Blackpool and Wigan are two quality away days though, will miss both of them, particularly Blackpool.
Lets be honest, Reading is nver going to be seen as a good away day. It might be a large town, but it doesn't have much going for it, the stadium is on the edge of town with very little in the way of facilities around it, public transport link aren't great but n new station should be opening soon which is a 15 minute walk away). It does however have two rush hours.....one for those who work in the town, and the other for those who are either going to work in London or coming home from London. Hence why we have 8pm kick offs.
I won't miss it at all. The town centre is alright, we drink in The Gateway whenever we go but last time Celtic were early KO and it was full of Celtic fans in there? Bit strange. The only time I don't mind Reading away is in midweek, it's alright cause you can have a drink before and after in the centre and the last train back is about 12:30am which works well, get home by about 2am and it's a decent night out.
Well if it is Churchdown, I'm extremely jealous. I'd move back there tomorrow - my wife doesn't agree though.
Been in there a few times, defo an Irish pub. Don’t mind Reading, town centre is fine and 30 mins out of Paddington. Job done.
That's the one right outside the station isn't it. I've never been in there when we play you, as that's where half of our fans end up. The other half end up in the "Hope Tap" Wetherspoons.
Wigan haven’t paid their players again today. The saga with the clown that owns them goes on. Don’t expect a challenge for them next season. Reading, meh. Blackpool. Almost worth missing out in the playoffs for. But not quite
