Nunez and Salah are on a mission to not score ever again. Ian Rush should get a game, he won't have forgotten where the goal is. Watch the master and learn.
Not a fan of the briefing against him recently for sure. I've had my grievances with him and his inconsistency before, but tbh he's shown at times this season what a power he can be in the side. At the end of the day so many of the forwards have been fluffing their chances recently, the only one who doesn't is injured. I don't like Nunez being made into a scapegoat.
I don't think it matters really. The set of forwards at the club is more than good enough imo but this calendar year has been a bit of a shitshow for different reasons. First, Salah went to AFCON and picked up an injury - then came back and aggravated the injury. Hasn't looked near himself at all. Nunez picked up a knock that kept flaring up. Jota picked up an injury in the middle of brilliant form, and then now has another that more or less ends his season. Diaz has had bouts of good form, but due to the above imo he's been run into the ground a bit. Gakpo is the 5th best forward at the club, has struggled with confidence because he has had social media and Jamie Carragher on his back - still will end the season with 15 goals in all competitions most likey. I'll take that from a rotation player. Just as form can go south, it can pick up again is what I am saying - a lot of sell and replace talk has been going on recently but it seems kneejerk to me. The only two I'd consider selling (offer dependent) are Salah and Diaz.
Well yeah if you want to do a full squad autopsy go ahead, but I think the fact is they've had to juggle a lot of the past 4 months with an at times threadbare squad - add in the emotionally charged issue of Klopp leaving and it is no surprise they've hit a wall. In the end though the nature with which they're ending the season is going to sour a lot of people's moods but it doesn't change the fact 3rd (if secured) with a trophy would have been deemed a success back in August. I am of the opinion that squad doesn't need much adding to it at all depending on player sales. I just think if you think a side jumping from 5th to 3rd with a trophy isn't progress, then I don't know what to say.
No defenders are getting it with both barrels too. Loads of threads calling for few of them to follow Klopp out the door on socials. Konate seems to be getting the brunt of it. He's going through his worst period since he's been at club but there's no way we should cash in on him. He'll come good again no question and he's still only young for a central defender.
At least what is nice about having Edwards running things is you know he isn't arsed about the social media pitchforks at dawn discourse.
Just the same repetitive shite. We get it. You wanna be a troll. You like the bites and validation. Everyone is still bored shitless reading it though. . .
Seeing the above comments I feel it necessary to clarify I come in peace here but where do you all reckon it's gone wrong for you this season? For my money, it's nothing to do with the Klopp announcement as I've seen some suggest - the squad just isn't strong enough to maintain a title challenge anymore. Have I pretty much nailed it or nah?
Probably get a few different answers because it’s hard to say. For me though, I’m leaning towards burning out a bit. I think it’s something like 24 times we’ve conceded first in all comps this season. That takes its toll because you have to go up several notches of intensity to get back into those games. We rarely have games where we can just coast and pick up the points.
The coming back and winning will always have its limitations. That United game was certainly a kick in the nuts, and then to go back in the league and have it more or less happen again was bad - you could see the players looked proper disappointed after that. tbh after that league game at Old Trafford is when losing Hendo and Milner probably hurt a bit. They'd have been useful in trying to centre the minds a bit.
