I'm thinking of changing my car, and I've been looking at the figures on new motors. Performance seems to have taken a real hammering in the quest to get mpg and CO2 within certain limits. My ancient Astra is marginally quicker 0 - 62 than the above, and while I don't want a sports car I do want something with a bit of go under the bonnet. Still looking . . .
There is a new Astra coming out in September which will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show it will probably be a smaller version of the Insignia as Vauxhall have basically the same look through there range. You could probably get a good deal on the current model now as there is a new one being released. I like the look of the Astra 1.9 CDTi don't know about the specs though I imagine it's quick. They test drove the current Civic type R on topgear and it turned out to be slower than the previous version of the Civic type R aswell as having a poor ride.
The current Astra 1.9CDTi [150] has the same figures as my car, the Insignia 1.9CDTi engine puts out 160bhp though, so if it's the same engine it may be quicker. Unless they've detuned it of course . . . That said there's no way I'm spending £15k on a new car, it spends at least 250 days a year sitting on my drive.
Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTi 8V SXi [120] 3dr Hatchback. http://www.buyacar.co.uk/detailyq19094.jhtml £13,159. Minus another 2k for your car .
8v 120Bhp? 0 - 62 9.7 seconds? This is the problem mate. The 1.8 16V petrol I drive now does 0 - 62 in 8.3 seconds, not mind blowing but quick enough. Ideally I want something with similar performance.
Agreed. We use a Renault Primastar and it's very reliable, although the brake pads are a slut to change.
