I'd love England to do well as well as all the other home nations. The anti England stuff is pathetic and 'look at us' behaviour.

Wales got to the semi's last time i think and i hope they do as well again.

This is exactly my point, just saying "I hope England do terribly" elicits a pretty disgruntled response... imagine when they actually do terribly.

I really don't understand, but each to their. Bit strange that you come on to a forum to post about something you don't care for.

I also don't understand this club vs country nonsense. They are two different things, why can't you enjoy both? It's the same bloody sport.

I watched that game on the big screens at Glastonbury festival. Huge crowd, booming sound. Amazing experience.

I think it’s easy to fall out of love with international football. When your team aren’t going through a golden generation it can be easy to not be excited.

I’ve always enjoyed it and find it a nice break from club football. It’s exciting seeing national teams face off against each other and I usually watch every single game. I’ll never get over the feeling of seeing Portugal lifting a major international trophy, it was an incredible moment that I’ll cherish forever

    Agree to an extent.

I'm invested in Charlton 365 days a year, season ticket holder, spend Saturday's going up and down the country to support them etc.

Whilst I want England to win, it's nowhere near the same as with my club. It's just a bunch of other club's players wearing an England shirt. I don't give a shit about those players any other time in a season (in fact, in years gone by I'd probably go as far as to say I've actually disliked a lot) so difficult to get behind them as passionately but yeah, it doesn't have to be either or.

Me, too. I think I've never missed a single match of our Mannschaft since I was a kid. Not even when I was in the Army. I always found a way to watch them.

I love my HSV for more than 50 years now but for me it was never "club before country" but always "club and country".

Donny, at least you have the comfort to cheer for Portugal and England. So you could experience the incredible feeling of seeing your team lift a major trophy. You're luckier than your english compatriots who haven't had this joy yet (unless of course they're even older than me and were already old enough to see Bobby Moore and -Charlton play in their prime and lift the (old) World Cup trophy) :D
These are indeed moments you'll cherish forever.

I only cheer for Portugal to be fair. I’m obviously happy when England do well but it’s just not the same feeling

I don't really understand what you mean, but to take your question literally, no I don't watch all football matches.

I care just as much about England as I care about Bournemouth. International football is separate from club football so my support for both can co-exist.

I support England in any sport. Once someone pulls on an England shirt he's on my team, regardless of his club, so I support him.

Having watched Bournemouth for years, I'd say it's equally as easy to fall out of love with club football!

Entirely nonplussed by international football as a rule. I find a nation too much of a nebulous concept to really get behind or feel that passionate about. I have nothing in common with a 40 year old Tory/Leave voting bloke in Hull. A shared language and borders drawn in sand don’t really do enough for me to feel any kind of connection with him.

However I’m not going to be a really cool edgelord like Mr.E and say I want England to lose. Mainly because being able to go down the pub with my mates and all be rooting for the same thing is a fun experience. I can get lost in the camaraderie for a couple of hours. Maybe it’s more difficult if you don’t have any mates.

As for Russia, it'll be kinda hard to get smth more then Last 16 for our team

One the one side, we don't have so terrible opponents but Belgium (also Denmark and Finland)
But on the other side, our Cherchesov's decision aren't clear for most viewers at all. For instance, he left Guilherme (the best Russian keeper at the moment) beside Euro squad and our first goalkeeper is Anton Shunin (the weakest Russia Team keeper since 2002 as minimum). Anyway, i'll surely support my country and wish these guys to go through Top 8 at least

Also will support England team but they will surely bottle another tournament:shrug

P.S. It's so strange for us to find other countries generally closed even for foreigners who has tickets because here in Russia we don't have such string restrictions and 50% attendance on stadiums is our standard since this autumn. So waiting for 30 000 attendance in St Petersburg

I live in a huge metropolitan city and as such you share a bar with people from all over the place. As I explained earlier I found it embarrassing watching people getting aggressive in a bar because a Colombian family dared to celebrate Colombia scoring against England in a WC.

I'd much rather have a shared experience with someone from South America or around Europe even though we might want different outcomes.

Sorry you and your friends are too numb skulled to require people "root" for the exact same outcomes from an event to stay jovial. Perhaps try eating less salt in your diet.

Oddly enough the most patriotic I ever felt was in June '18 when I happened to be in Croatia during the tournament, especially the night England played Croatia and lost. Great atmosphere with loads of strangers, English and Croatian, yet had I been at home I'd have watched it on TV alone because I can't bring myself to care that much. :shrug

I’m not surprised. Not a huge fan of international football but in a pub/bar/whatever full of people enjoying the game I can get myself wrapped up in it for a couple of hours.

To actively hope your home nation loses is because either you frequent pubs full of bellends or because you’re incredibly lonely individual.

Fair play pal, you really are the king of making strawman arguments to make yourself feel like less of a c*nt on the Internet. I’m nearly impressed x

Caught a bit of the Spain v Portugal friendly earlier , R.Sanchez the best player on the pitch albeit you can't take much from a friendly & why they are playing them within 7 days of a major tournament is baffling !
