Similar to the movie thread can we have this stickied? Band of Brothers - 10/10 - Absolutely superb, probably the best series/mini series I have ever watched. Everything about it was top notch, from the research, to the writing, to the cinematography, to the acting, simply awesome.
The Pacific - 10/10 - Made by the same people as Band of Brothers, in the same format. Band of Brothers shades it slightly but this still deserves a 10/10. Best viewed in bluray. Ashes to Ashes - 7/10 - It's a leave your brain at the door type thing. Decent enough show given that its british made tv and most british made tv sucks.
Community (up to the point it's at) - 8/10 - First season was excellent, equal quality of other comedies like that out there, but the second went all silly and I haven't been as interested
Last 3 weeks... Sons of anarchy (3 seasons) maybe my favourite still running show. The Sopranos with motorbikes, and at least as good as The Sopranos. Deadwood (all 3 seasons), it's like the film Tombstone, about a wild west town. GREAT characters, witty dialogue, the 1st season is incredible tv, peters out a bit. The most used word in it is "C#cksucker" The Shield (1st season) very good but I'd rate it below the aforementioned shows so far. Strangely similar to Deadwood with a bad guy as the protagonist, I like conflicted characters. Apparently it gets better so I'm downloading the rest atm.
How Not To Live Your Life (series 1) - I'd only ever seen random episodes and always found it funny so I downloaded them all and started from the beginning. Series 1 is fantastic, hilarious all the way through. 9/10. Just began series 2. I need a new non-comedy series to start. I've only got House on the go at the moment.
What do you think of Season 2 so far compared to 1? Do you not find it a bit over the top at times. Season one was fantastic but 2 (I'm on episode 7) seems like they're trying too hard to parody everything. Although I read that the shows creator has said the rest of the episodes will be mostly character-driven so that's a good sign
There's an animated Christmas episode which was abit gay, but I liked the rest of them And the Zombie episode was also abit rubbish but something important came out of it so I'm not too bothered about it. Episode 13 airs tonight so hopefully I'll be able to download it...
The Pacific - 10/10 - I didn't think this would touch Band of Brothers, but I have to admit it ended up running it close. I dunno, I just preferred BOB that little bit more, there were better characters, etc in it. Although Snafu became strangely likeable despite being one weird ****er, lol... All in all excellent stuff, just like Band of Brothers. These HBO folk sure know how to produce the goods.
House Season 7 - Getting a bit tedious now I think. In Treatment Season 1 - Fabulous show, absolutely top notch. Fringe Season 1-2 - Far better than lost IMO South Park Season 14 - Still brilliant especially the Facebook episode. EDIT - The Good Wife Season 1-2 - Best legal serial ever and that includes The Practice.
Mad Men, series 1-4 Bloody brilliant. I did all four series in about two weeks because I kept having to watch another one, which didn't really help my uni work or social life but hey ho. I'd recommend it to anyone, it's that captivating. As far as American TV shows go it's up there with The Wire and The Sopranos for me. It's not totally flawless - some of the storylines drag on a bit and then fizzle out with no reward. Peggy's character in series 3 & 4 (4 is by far and away the "least good" series) is the main culprit here, which is a shame because she's such a pivotal point of the show, but her main storyline bubbles as an undertone throughout all the seasons and will probably get very interesting in season 5, because there's only so long they can ignore it. The bloke who plays Donald Draper is absolutely bloody brilliant. I think it was TVR in another thread who said that him and Betty are amazing on screen together and I couldn't agree more. I could genuinely watch an hour long episode of just those two interacting. Two terrific actors with a terrific script. There's also lots and lots and lots of smoking and drinking in it, which I absolutely love.
King Of The Hill (seaon 1)- A great start to an overlooked animated comedy. Just as good as the Simpsons, if not better.
