I censored the thread title in case of offending anyone . If you hadn't seen already through the various sources today sees the beginning of the campaign against the use of 'The Y Word'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIvJC1_hKt8&feature=player_embedded I'm disappointed in our club. The bit in bold is off the main site in the rest of the article. It sums up why Spurs fans have adopted the term 'Yid'. They then back a campaign making our fans look like complete mugs. The 'Yiddo' chant definitely looks like it's Spurs fans at the Lane. As I said I'm so disappointed in our club once again in my opinion letting it's fans down. Seeing Ledley King - our club captain, also participate in the campaign and the video is a kick in the teeth. For any young Spurs fan the term may be confusing, when I learnt of the reasoning behind the 'Yid' chanting at Spurs I was incredibly proud of our support and our club for backing what is effectively anti-racism. Utterly ridiculous. More modern day football madness. Nice to see Spurs once again backing it's fans. YID ARMY!
Again a small minority of football fans have made this a major issue. Certain Spurs users have have Yids in there names for ages, so why has certain members started complaining now, well thats easy because Fat Frank and Sick Note Lesley have made an issue about it so certain users feel abliged to be the Fat Frank and Sick Note lesley of FF...
Yet another move towards the total sanitisation of football. This was the inevitable next step once footballers start getting bans for swearing on the pitch, yet more "think of the children" PC nonsense.
To be fair I hadn't even seen that thread in the other part of the forum, just as ridiculous though if it's going to kick up a fuss on here. Clearly . I'm sure the Chelsea fans will be on their best behaviour at the end of the month. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Interested what the other Yi.. sorry Spurs fans think though.
This is the chelsea song that started this whole y-word malarkey (I've coloured it white so you cant see it unless you want to. I think that while it is pc gone mad they do have a point, If we call ourselves the Yid army then people will incorperate that into their chants about how 'shit' our club is ect. Stret you're going to have to do a name change for both SY's btw
It doesn't really bother me, but I suppose it was only a matter of time. I think if you asked a lot of Jewish people that aren't Spurs fans, they'd be offended by it. Not particularly because it's a racist term but it's being made light of by a group whose constituents have nothing to do with the situation, and in a lot of cases don't know anything about what they're singing at all. I'd be annoyed at a group claiming ownership of a word perceived to be racist and then banding it around so frivolously. Ajax are/have been in a similar position, have they not? I'm sure there was a very similar culture amongst their fans up until recently, Jewish flags being unfurled, songs about Jewish heritage despite not actually being of Jewish heritage and the like, and they've disengaged themselves from the practice because the club thought it to be disrespectful.
What utter bollocks Glad I got out of England because the place is being run by a bunch of tree hugging yoghurt knitting left wing ******s
I'd like to know if this is actually true. A lot of the issues surrounding racism are a result of perceived offence by the middle-class white academic, rather than offence actually caused to the group we're supposedly protecting. I'd like to point you to this article which, whilst old, points to the use of the word Yid within the Jewish community. Personally I don't think you can ban a word; rather you have to look at context. When the Spurs fans use it, it is used with positive connotations. Perhaps when our rivals use it, as in the Auschwitz chant shown on the video, it can be racist.
http://tottenbloghotspur.blogspot.com/2011/04/yid-army-yiddo-yids-y-word-offensive-my.html This article sums up my thoughts. As I said earlier, disappointed the club acknowledge the reasons we adopt the term 'Yid' and then back a campaign that doesn't distinguish the two making us look like racist mugs .
This has popped up before I seem to believe. Agree with that blog. The fact Ledley has put his name and face on the campaign seems to indicate the players couldn't give a **** about the fans, only when we're supposedly doing something wrong. I bet that fat **** Lampard is ****ing loving it.
Just one point, the Jewish language is called "Yiddish", so it can't be that much of an offensive word to call ourselves.
Look at the size of Fat Fwank's fookin head!!!! You would have thought Lampard had more pressing things to worry about?....Like not getting the girth of his old mans swede!!!
Obviously . and I reckon with Shelfside away on his travels we should be able to vote for his new name
I can understand why it can offend people, sure. I can't say it bothers me, though. Either way - who gives a shit? It won't change anything.
