I've just ordered a few bits and bobs for my PC so thought I'd ask what you guys use?

Mines a little out of date but I'll list the specs.

This is just to learn some new types of set up - for one I'm used to only Nvidia / Intel

I'm using links from ebuyer as I cba to look for cheapest sites

    Processor: Intel E8800 - Duo 3.0 hz - LINK

    Graphics Card: Inno3D 9600gt - 512mb - LINK

    Operating System
    : Windows XP Home

RAM: 4gig - 32 bit XP only recognises 3gig or thereabouts.

    Case: Casecom 6788 - LINK

    Hard-drive: Samsung 1TB - LINK

Motherboard: XFX nForce 750i - LINK

I only just ordered the case and HD as mine was an IDE beforehand. My case atm is like an old school computer, really pasty colour, yuk.

Hopefully I get on an IT course soon for maintenance as I really enjoy making and repairing them :(

About 20 or so I've made and flogged on

Repaired some under the borough of Poole when I was up for apprenticeship work. Most repairs mind were to servers or software issues

    Not a huge amount then.

It's very repetitive work, I couldn't do it.

I used to love it making custom built gaming rigs with new hardware and good quality parts but building machines for general use....

It depends where you get a job, but if it's maintaining standard junk it's horrible IMO so I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket so to speak.

I hated it so much, I found love for a company I once loathed.

  6. It's a standard (shite) computer, but I'll break it down as best I can.

    Intel Celeron Processor 550 (2.0GHz, 533Mhz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)

252MB Mobile Intel graphic media accelerator X3100

    1GB DDR2

    80GB Toshiba (I think) HDD

    802.11b/g WLAN

    Windows XP Professional SP3

As I said... shite , looking at increasing that RAM to 3GB, and considering a new graphics card too..

I knew my PC was going to have the PSU at the bottom but I didn't think my P4 cable wouldn't reach the motherboard :(

Now going to head down maplins tomorrow see if I can get a P4 to power cable. Until then my PC is open on one side of the casing with the PSU ontop

Just build a complete new rig if you are considering those upgrades.

Crespo, just wondering what PSU have you bought for your system?

    My system at the moment:

    X3 720 Black Edition @ 3.2Ghz
    XFX 5770
    4gb Kingston DDR3 1600Mhz

    Enough for me.

Get a decent PSU. Don't skimp on it as PSU's often get overlooked.

How you can spend £200+ on a graphics card is beyond me, more money than sense :p

I can do as a f*cking like, cheers.

I sold it to my mate for £120, so only lost a tenner. He's made up though and he has a two year warranty with XFX.
