I've said it throughout the thread but it's sad that even clubs like Benfica, Ajax or whoever have an uphill task winning a European trophy in the modern era. Olympiakos are a big name in European football but victories like this don't come around anymore. I was a sceptic when this competition was announced. It helped that Spurs played in its inaugural year but it has been a breath of fresh air in European football. Unfortunately the first two seasons were won by the favourites so took a little shine off the competition for me. This feels like the night this competition makes a name for itself.
Congratulations to Olympiacos. Can't help but enjoy seeing an inaugural winner from a country, and to win it just down the road! A winner that feels more like what the Conference League should aim to be, but the achievement they've done to win it considering their opponents & respective rankings of leagues in the semi & final alone, superb.
Absolutely both bang average or worse for most of the game but Fiorentina played a little better and created a little more danger
Congrats to Olympiacos (I just saw that I wrote it in my previous post in German Olympiakos but I hope you knew which club I meant ) First Greek European Cup winner ever!! (Panathinaikos (again with a 'c"?) was in the European Cup Final in 1971 but lost against the (then) best team in the World, Ajax). Fantastic. That's what the ECL is for, imo. To give the "smaller" Leagues something to celebrate, too! Unlucky for Fiorentina, though. 2nd time in a row they lost the ECL final. Maybe next time btw: Final wasn't the "most exciting" one, though. During it I feel asleep for approx. 20 minutes, much to the amusement of my wife
