Looking forward to seeing how Jaiswal goes in Aussie conditions, and also to see how India bounce back after the NZ battering.
India win the toss and Jasprit fancies a bat first. Couple of surprises in the Indian line up as there’s no room for Ash or Sarfaraz. Nathan McSweeney will open when Australia bat otherwise it’s as you were.
Here comes Starc for his first ball. The last time he played in Perth when the opposition opted to bat he got Rory Burns out first cherry........this one goes down the leg for four byes.
Rahul out after an inconclusive DRS for caught behind. KL indicating it was bat on pad that causes the spike but the spike is good enough for the third ump to say out. 47-4 and India in all sorts of strife..
Yeah, that was the most tentative Kohli innings I've ever seen. KL was lucky to survive. Slightly unlucky to get out. I would be happy if we cross 150.
Yeah, 150 would be good right now, Pant has to be the man to get them there from here though. The old adage of don't judge a pitch until both teams have played on it will ring true here. This is first use I think of the drop down pitch since the AFL season finished so a lot could happen in the next couple of days, plus Bumrah has stated that the WA tracks get faster as the game goes on. He may have his work cut out if it doesn't..
This is fun to see. It's always great to see the Aussies trampled on their own turf, and this India team are due a massive revamp so this has the potential to be a series of chaos. Plus Bumrah, what a guy.
I don't think the pitch is unplayable. Definitely not one where 17 wickets can happen in a day. It was a combination of good bowling (primarily Hazelwood, Starc & later by Bumrah) & the descending standards of batting. Also, I have probably said this many times here, but boy are we blessed to have Bumrah. Generational talent.
Aussies probably thought they were on top after India's innings but they reckoned without Bumrah and co.
Just goes to prove the old adage that you shouldn't judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it. Rather like @Zydus, I'm not convinced the pitch is as difficult to bat on as 150 all out against 67/7 might suggest from what I've seen, but quality attacks like the two on show in this game will make full use of any assistance that is there.
Are you nicking my old adage quote? How very dare you.. Just watched the highlights, again, that Bumrah is an absolute joy to watch..
The pitch seemed completely harmless today, though it started showing signs of uneven bounce in the evening session. Going forward that's good news for us. Despite getting no wickets Hazelwood was excellent today, & to a degree Starc. KL played a typical KL innings, which was much better than the one in the first innings. However, Jaiswal's was even more admirable, considering he likes play his shots, but seemed very careful & cautious. Signs of maturity at such an early stage of career is great.
